Your Insomnia Thread

I bet this board is just crawling with Insomniac's. I know of a few myself. Share some of the crazy ass things you've tried to get some Z's. I'll go first

1. Reading
2. Watch TV in a dark room.
3. Hot Showers
4, Turn on a hair dryer (something about the sound is almost hypnotic).
5 . Go to bed with the radio on , this rarely works as I will stay up even later.
6. Try to stay up all night on purpose.
7 . Sleepy time tea. Tea is not my thing unless it has alcohol in it.
8. Benadryl , I dislike the loopy feeling it gives me.
9 . Nutritional Supplements, just magnesium.
10 .Try to stay up all night talking on the phone cross country. If someone start to yawn on the other end I get sleepy. The power of suggestion I suppose.
11. Alcohol, because being #11 it's number 1 twice. :D
12. I saved the best for last, Sex , anyone who will fuck you because you have insomnia is a true friend.

also, there's a form of unisom that isn't benadryl that works pretty well.

also also, melatonin. it's a crapshoot in my experience. once i took it and every time i felt the sleepiness kick i had sudden, shocking itch occur on some random part of my body. it drove me fucking nuts. thankfully it was only the once.

and weed works. if you can avoid getting distracted by tv or music or video games or whatever until you stay up until 4 in the morning and fuck yourself over anyway.

Great list! I've tried everything but turning on the hair dyer. I use a white noise app on my iPhone, but some of the sounds are ridiculous. Thunderstorm, yea real relaxing. Boat swaying in water, hello onset of sea sickness. Tibetan singing bowl, shoot me in the head. But then I guess I would finally fall asleep. ;)

Also this sleeping pill I can't remember the name, it's popular. I hated the grogginess waking up though. After two months I quit it cold turkey, I was awake for 48 straight hours. Sleepy and jittery at the same time.

when you have pound one out three times while stoned before you can go to sleep it tends to feel a bit crazy.
 
i have to have airflow. the fan on medium speed. several blankets. it's a weight thing. super hot shower. reading. fucking. working out during the day helps me sleep better at night. booze is not good at a certain point. like 5am. not good. other than that, i am not hardcore.
 
Sleep is a mostly random event for me. Some nights I lay down and I'm out, others I can be on ambien, vicodin, and flexeril and still not sleep. I've pretty much given up trying to force it.

Ambien! That's the one I was thinking of.

Besides Benadryl for the month of May, I can't live a responsible existence with drugs in my system.

Ambien worked the first few times, but left me really groggy. It weakened rapidly, and these days it barely knocks me out for a couple hours, and then only if I haven't taken it in a while.
 
A nice big meal. If it includes portabello mushrooms, you'll have an interesting dream.
 
I bought an S+ Sleep Analyzer after seeing rave reviews on Gizmodo. I've had it for two months. It's done wonders for my insomnia.

You put it next to your bed and if feeds data to your iPhone all night. The next morning it tells you in detail about your sleep, whether you were disturbed by noise, temperature change, light, etc.

It tracks your movement by ultrasound and tells you how much deep sleep, light sleep and REM sleep you've had.

Then it gives you a "sleep rating" for the night.
