Insomnia club

I slept maybe two hours last night, and now again tonight it looks like I might get the same.
I've had severe insomnia ever since I can remember. I remember being 4 and still up when my dad got home from work at 1 am.

I hate this. The longest I was ever awake was five nights with not a bit of sleep. By then I was hallucinating and it still took a heavy does of xanax to knock me out, and I only slept a few hours.

Sometimes I'll be awake for 3-4 days then sleep for 1-2 days straight.I used to call it cluster sleeping.

So fucked up.

Are you able to sleep during the day more easily? What things have you tried other than drugs?

A fellow sufferer, though not as chronic as your symptoms sound - every sympathy.

Day or night really makes no difference. Last year I was planning a road trip with friends and we were looking into sharing a condo. When trying to decide who would sleep where I said it doesn't matter to me if I have a bed or a sofa, I can either sleep or not and I can do either anywhere.

It's like that. Either I can sleep, or I can't. Doesn't matter the circumstances.

I've tried other meds, Benadry, Tylenol PM. Also tried melatonin. Meditating. Tried sleeping in a dark cool quiet room. Tried everything I can think of but if my brain can't turn off no matter what I can't sleep.

Exercise? Cutting out caffeine? You've probably been asked it a hundred times, apologies - just know the obvious ones that seem to affect me more noticeably and often work temporarily.

Apparently black tea has more caffeine than black coffee.
My only response to learning that factoid was "No Shit".

That's been shared with me too when I've recounted my sleep troubles, usually straight after telling a sound sleeper and coffee drinker that I can't drink the stuff...

I went with, "No shit, Sherlock" :)
