Some cats seem to bite, not out of hostility, but out of some weird, distorted nursing reflex. A kind of, "I love you so much, I hate you," type thing. Our cat Alice is like that. Just when she's purring the loudest and is the most blissed out is when she's most likely to suddenly put the jaw on you for no apparent reason, like she just can't help herself. Strangely, she tends to bite women more than men.

Our cat Stella does that too, only she doesn't ever bite down...it's more just a mouthing kinda thing.

CC used to do that. Folks would see it and think that she was extremely hostile at times. But she never bit down at all. She was the most amazing cat that I ever had.

This is going to seem mean, even cruel, to some, but I solved my wife's cat of his biting in one easy lesson. He bit me and I knocked the fuck out of him. One hard swat across the head that took him across the room and he has never even feigned biting again. He is an adult cat, maybe five years old, and well set in his ways. Both Lisa and her ex tolerated his occasional biting, so it never went away. I simply will not put up with an animal that bites. However, I did soften my approach for my wife's cat. I let him live.

I actually like this cat. His name is Pig and he's a domesticated bobcat. He fights and kills racoons. As long as he contains his biting to neighborhood pests and not family members he can chomp away.

If the other suggestions don't work feel free to use my method as a last ditch effort.

I agree with EPIPHANY.

I've been around cats all my life and never known any cat to change much. Each has his own personality and ways.

But get an opinion from a vet.
