*Taken almost word for word from a mag*

they just past a law banning minors from playing or veiwing violent video games.

Abt coin-opperated game in which people are decapitated, dismembered, mutilated or maimed is off-limits to kids in indianapolis, indiana, as of sept 1st...

Arcades are required to have these games to have warning labels, be kept 10 feet away from the "Non-violent" games, and curtained off so that the kiddies can't peek. Else they can be fined $200 a day for each violation, and if they are caught more than thrice in one year they get their amusments license revoked...

So, what do you all think of this noncence? I ask because there is rumor of such a law being instituted her in MI...

Okay Ravenloft, as a Mother and you know a very overprotective one, I do agree that the games should be curtained off and that they have warnings on them.

However I don't agree with the fine's, the kids just want to go have fun not have to worry about if they are going to have to pay a fine after they leave the place.

But I'm sorry some of these games are extremly violent, so I do beleive they are doing the right thing.

that's a bunch of bullshit. parents hould be responsible for their children, not the government.

I hate to be the scrooge on this, but i think that we should have a segregation on this games either a walled of partetion or curtain to seperate the violent games from the non violent.

there are kids who do like to go play games for the fun of playing and do not like the influence of the violence in the other games.

however in the same breath i do not believe that there should be fines for the owners but they should be enforceded to have some sort of segregation.

The arcade is the one that has to pay the fines...

Well then YES that makes it more worth while to me.

Shila think how you would feel if your child continually played these games. I'm not saying that it would happen but just think how you would feel if your child went out thinking this was okay in society, because lets face it, really this is the only entertainment for some of these kids, how would you feel if your child went out and killed another child.

Okay tell me I'm over reacting here, then talk to Teresa, who has lost her child, and I'm not saying through Video Games but she has lost a child all the same. Just think what they do to the younger kids that don't fully know the diffrence between right and wrong.

Video Games are great, I play them myself but some of the Graphics and what not, are very life like in some of these games.

Look I'm entiltled to my opinion too, and that is that I agree with what they want to do.

Sorry Nicole, but this is not going to stop the kids, not when they are the ones that most frquent the arcades. and blameing real life violence on pixels is retarded, just about as retarded as blaming the columbine thing on trench coats and doom...

Okay First up, you think blameing things like this is retartded??? Well think then of the children/adults out there that do have that small abnormality in their brain, think of how these games affect them. The violence and not only on gmaes but in society all together, think of that for once.

I'm not blameing the games for that, just as I don't blame Trench Coats for Columbine, or (and you probably didn't hear of this) but just as I don't blame a small little Cafe for the slaying of 35 people here in Australia. You have to realise that not everyone is as "normal" as you and I, and some of these things they see trigger things in their minds.

Look your so passionate about this because you play these games, and you have fun doing it too, well good for you, but there is life beyond these games, and you CAN NOT blame parents and Goverments for trying to make the world a better place for these kids.

Arcade owners will just have to monitor more the movements of kids instead of sitting on their fat behinds just taking money, as is everything else in this world Ravenloft, there are certain rules to follow, and we may not all like them but we still have to as adults follow them.

This is just my opinion and I respect your opinion too, we just have to agree to disagree on this one.

As a Mother I don't want my son playing some of these games, that is my right as a Parent, and if he did go off to one of these Arcades then I would make sure as a Parent that he wouldn't be exposed to them.

We're all for putting the porno tapes and dirty books in curtained or walled off area, but images of guns ripping bloody holes through bodies, that's just fine, eh?

Nope. Sorry.

Sex and violence should be accesssbile, but not publicly viewable. I have a right to walk into a place of public business and not have my child view bloody limbs. We also keep kids out of bars, off casino floors, and (theoretically) out of R rated film theatres. There is no reason in the world arcade halls should be exempt from inapprorpriate displays of graphic violence -- unless the arcade wants to make itself like a bar, and ban anyone under 18 (or 19, or 21, as the case may be).

i wouldn't LET my child play games like that. quite simple.

and when I play Unreal Tournament, it doesn't evoke violent thoughts. It makes me think of this Alanis Morrisette album I have cause I used to play it while shooting things. long time association, i guess.

I'm with DCL and Nicole on this one

It has already been proven that Violant TV shows have influenced the kids of today.

Ive been in them game rooms, and have heard first hand, "I'll kill that mother fucker at school, just like this", the child was playing one of them games.... Now would he actually do it...i dunno....he might.... but the point is, the thought is there, and that is what scares me. BTW, the child was 10 years old..

I think every parent wants to protect there child, this could be an emotional issue for them. To them parents you have all my respect.

I don't think the Owner should be fined, and sometimes the government does over step there boundries.
But i think the games are getting worse today, and i think they should be seperated from the rest...

Agree or Disagree, that is everyones right.

and this was a good thread to bring up.

Well thank you Roll! I thought I would try and be serious for once... but to my thinking if they do put these gamse into a separate room wouldn't it seem that the kids would want to see them all the more???

I have thought of that, and thats what usually happens. But if it helps just one child, this would be all worth the effort..

Well at some point if you have kids, or are going to have kids your gonna have to deal with them finding out about the consept of strippers, and the like... See, my father was a little lax in his monitoring of my tv veiwing so I had seen stuff like porn and horror flicks when I was like 7... And I don't think I turned out so bad... But only because I had a great mom that helped to explain such things to me... Thats what I have been driving towards, just as, I think CB has, its the parents that should deal with these things... Not the gov. And if they handle it as well as my mom I don't think things would be so bad for us... But people are lasy, or repressed when it comes time for the dreaded birds/bees talk...
