Not a bad story, but I see your character died. I like that time period. As you say not only the USA has a bloody history in South-East Asia.
What about a new setup? a story of total decay, a combination of incest and war?
French colonists are gathered together and wait for the para's to come and evacuate them. Perhaps they are even taken hostage by rebels. It could be in Indo-Chine, Algéria, or somewhere in Africa.
Virginie Dendoyen, the 18th years old daughter of a doctor in
Indo-chine, or Algéria. She has spent her yought in France and in Indo-Chine or Algéria, or a colony in Africa. One day her older cousin visits them. He had an affair with the wife of a minister in France and was forced to go away.
Far away from the glorious Republic of France and it's ambiguous ethics, the naïve Virginie is seduced by her cousin. In the hot monsoon season she is taught about sex in every possible way.
But then the rebels come. After an attack of the rebels the colonists gather up in the house of a plantation. They are awaiting the paratroopers to evacuate them.

Unfortunately, the rebel forces are surrounding the compound. From time to time rebels attack the compound but the armed colonists resist them. Meanwhile the wives and daughters of the colonists remain indoors, were the tension rises high.
