At least it will divert attention from Iran's nuclear ambitions. The India/Pakistan border is a far more dangerous nuclear hotspot than anywhere else. It is also worth noting that the emigrants from Pakistan and India are mainly tribal and local in their loyalties rather than national.

Pakistan is also currently trying to evict some 2 million war refugees from their country back to Afghanistan which will complicate issues.

India has been in Contravention of a UN resolution on a plebiscite for Kashmir dating back to 1947. India will probably win a military conflict but with 220 million Moslem citizens of their own they are playing a dangerous game.

The worst feature is that it will prevent India and Pakistan, two of the worlds most talented Cricket teams from playing each other.

I don't recall any sort of Hindu/Muslim warfare in NYC or London in 1999. It does sound like things will go rapidly downhill in the Kashmir but I don't see it escalating to other continents.
