Indentation on text edit

The Literotica format doesn't do indentations. This is a rolling anthology with one, basic format across all of the stories. Literotica uses flush left, with an extra line feed between paragraphs--across the board.

I've never tried but I believe I read somewhere years and years ago that if you want special formatting, don't paste the text into the submission form.

Instead, upload your RTF, or doc file and you will have some formatting kept. I've seen bold and italics used in stories. Never indentations that I recall.

It does take longer to process your story like this, and there is no way to preview it.

If you just want a small amount of formatting you can use HTML or ubb in the story and include a note to the mod asking them to bold the text between [ b] [/b ]

No, you're not going to get indented paragraphs here. It just isn't going to happen. Literotica has a standard formatting. You can get a bit of a few other frills, but that isn't going to include indented paragraphs in your stories. (At least not until Literotica changes its formatting options.)

Literotica formatting seems a little odd at first, but I've gotten used to it, and it's so simple that now I like it. It keeps everything very simple and it encourages one not to focus on formatting, but on one's words. I think that's great. I've published 31 stories, and with the exception of italics that I used in prefatory remarks to my three 750 word stories, I've never used italics, boldface, or any other special formatting, and I've never wished that I had. It's sort of liberating.

Here's the skinny on formatting...

You can add a couple of html tags to michchicks how to.

<center> text </center> even though this has been disgarded in HTML 5.0 Lit scanner still sees it and changes it to the new standard. That standard does add a line feed after the line, so you have to skip a line feed between paragraphs.

<blockquote> text </blockquote> this will indent the line(s) by five spaces at each end of the line(s). The last time I tried to use this it didn't make it into the story. It may have been removed.

There are some others that I have never used and I don't know the construct of them.

Hmmm... I use bold, italics all the time, and even used underline once.

The Italics are for the copyright at the beginning of my stories. The bold for the embedded title and chapter headings and scene breaks.

Many others do, too. Nothing wrong with that, although I find italics annoying if it's done in long stretches.

Hi team,

Can anyone point out how to do indentations when submitting a story?

I have read

https://www.literotica.com/s/basic-text-formatting-101

By user michchick98, however I would really like to add indentations as well, especially for dialogue. I believe that layout and paragraph style can really make your story pop.

Cheers!

This is not exactly what you mean, but I very much like to use centred chapter numbers (which is a kind of indentation I suppose). I had to do it by submitting the story as a Word document, rather than just copying and pasting the text. You also have to request for the formatting to be retained.

Now, I have to say the first time I submitted a story, this worked like a charm. Subsequently, despite my ever more frantic and desperate requests, this solution has never been repeated. So, in short, you're probably not going to be able to do indentation.

I don't use italics except for the copyright blurb. If you do it for paragraphs within the story, then you might run it the problem where the there is a page break in the middle and poof.

You would need CSS or HTML tags such as DIV and none of that is allowed. I tried some escape sequences for tabulation but they don't work. Best you can do is <CENTER>

Agree. I went through a six-month period trying to use italics, and after too many cock ups and fails (some mine, some the processing) I gave up completely. Plain text is so much easier.

Blockquote works on SOME devices/browsers and not others

Here's the skinny on formatting... ...<snip>...
<blockquote> text </blockquote> this will indent the line(s) by five spaces at each end of the line(s). The last time I tried to use this it didn't make it into the story. It may have been removed. ....
I can't find the thread, but a discussion not too long ago, someone tested a few different browsers on a few different devices, and the answer was shown that blockquote works in some settings but not in others.

I did find this other thread (https://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=1468808) and this story from RubenR (https://www.literotica.com/beta/s/me-time-2) (reply number 3 in the same thread, btw), and I can say that blockquotes worked for me (by way of being indented and also italicized) on my Windows computer with Firefox, and also on an Apple device with Safari.

The ultimate answer to the OP is still the same: To specifically answer your specific question, Indent doesn't work, and probably never will.

To indirectly suggest possible alternative solutions that *maybe* might help, Center does work, but that wasn't what OP wanted or asked for. And blockquotes, also compromise solution and not what the OP wanted either, works in a manner of speaking, but not for everyone.
