Xavier Riley rested with his elbow on the bar. His right hand held a half-ful Jack and coke, and his left tapped the bar impatiently. He did not even know why he came here. He had not been back to Toledo since he graduated high school and for good reason. If a pile of shit could take a shit, the result would be called Toledo.
He had stopped trying to decipher these impulses a few years ago. He accepted that following these impulses resulted in a much easier life. When the impulse came to return to his home town, he did not hesitate long, but that doesn't mean he was excited about it.
He looked over the crowd. He thought he might recognize some faces, but he dismissed that to an active imagination. All these people were ignorant simpletons who would have no bearing on his life, but the impulse led him here, so here he was until his Spidey Sense, as he had come to call the impulse, settled.
