My oldest unpublished story is now 11 days old. The time to publication has been growing and my backlog increasing. If there was any serious editing going on, I would be fully understanding, but as it is, I'm a bit baffled!

I mean, the editors are allowed to have lives, of course, but I would like to be able to be on some kind of regular cadence for readers... and it looks like some authors are managing to do so. Is there some trick I am missing?

There's only one person that passes stories through. She doesn't edit, she 'screens' that's in quotes because from what's on this site I don't see much screening going on.

However, with that being said, 11 days sounds like there's something wrong as in maybe your story got lost in the void. You can send Laurel a PM by clicking on her name, then profile and send PM and give her the details.

My last story went up Friday, after three days pending. That was a day longer than I expected.

The story was buried. There were more than 180 new stories that day, and mine was near the bottom, on the third page of the New list.

An 11-day delay probably isn't intentional, but if the delay put's it after this huge crush of new stories, then it isn't such a bad thing.

I think 11 days means its lost in the shuffle or something, longest I ever saw was back when 5-7 days was common. Like you said 3 seemed longer to you, so 11 must be a problem.

This, unless it's got audio or images - I think some of those categories only get processed in monthly batches.

No nothing like that... I wonder if it's because I have been submitting a lot of stories. I have 9 unpublished in the queue. I actually stopped uploading last week because I was afraid submitting too many was the problem. My "one-a-day" experiment was clearly a failure.

That's not a good idea, especially if you're doing a series because you could end up with a scenario where ch 3 comes out before ch 2

Well, I didn't want to disturb her, but I did PM Laurel to get her recommendation. For the record, I will report back what she answers.

Ok, she got right back to me with helpful guidance.

1) There was a concern about where the series was going, so she held off publishing until I submitted more to be sure I wasn't headed into territory banned on literotica. I didn't, and so she has now greenlit it for further publication.

2) She says there is absolutely no problem submitting multiple chapters in advance... they will not get published out of order.

(Underage is not the only banned topic; so is snuff. There is no snuff in my work, but there was some violence in one chapter that made her wonder if it was going in that direction.)

If you look at the Hubs, there are a lot of stories now.

Also, if everything was approved quickly, that would mean massive amounts of new stories everyday, which is bad for everyone.

I'm sure with a lot of people still out of work or working less and from home more stories are being submitted than ever before.

I feel like I’ve put poor Laurel through some bullshit with some of my content. I like writing violence a little too much sometimes.

But yeah, I’ve also noticed a lot more stories showing up. It did seem like an odd time for it to happen now, though.

PriestofIshtar, glad you got it worked out, and that Laurel got back to you so quickly with an explanation.

Regarding snuff writing, I'm a little concerned about my plot for the upcoming Hammered event since there is significant violence planned for one or two scenes and a couple of graphic crime scenes. Since the Hammered story is set in the same "world," I'm planning to use chapter 3 of my "The Milkmaid" story as a general comparison, trying not to get too much more graphic than that.

The specific guidance she gave was:

"The actual scene as written was fine, but we wanted to make sure there was no explicit sexualized death (aka "snuff) in the storyline. As Lit is a site for adults, we allow violence and we allow explicit sex, but we do not publish death or extreme torture/dismemberment with the aim of sexual titillation."

So hopefully this will help clarify whether your story is likely to get into trouble.

Thanks! That's a great clarification. The threats in the climax scene may be a bit more suggestive than originally planned.

I have over the years PMed Laurel maybe 4 or 5 times and never gotten a response for what that is worth.

If you PM Laurel about something that you think needs to get done, then she will often just get it done (or not) and not take the time to reply.
