I find that incest is a main course best preceded by several preliminary "starter" dishes... by which I mean build-up. The taboo is made all the more shocking if a convincing scenario and "back story" can be contrived so as to induce the reader into an acceptance of the reality of what he/she is finally presented with.

It's disheartening to find the bland assertion within a tale that it simply "happens"... against all the societal and ethical barriers we know exist. This kind of "rush-to-the-fuck", lazy writing is par for the course on Lit., sadly, and makes for very poor stories.
