Incest scene I was'nt expecting

Well, the topics the movies can roll out to shock and titilate are getting more and more limited.

I wouldn't say titillation was their goal; shock was probably what they were going for.

I found that whole subplot kind of uncomfortable myself. Granted, the film attempts to play it for comedy, but the hatred and disgust all the characters throw at the brother and sister, culminating in Sandler's character bashing the sister over the head with a wine bottle (a priest knocks out the little brother), and then having everybody cheer...well, it's obvious that the incest revelation was supposed to get us to hate the two characters, but that all felt kind of mean spirited.

Assuming someone tell the cops, those two are going to do twenty years in prison (Massachusetts law), so bashing them over the head just feels unnecessarily cruel.

That's not in the clip, of course. And a Sandler movie? I think those play for titilation.

Woops! Correction.

Quick correction. Re-checking the last scene one more time before returning the DVD to Redbox, the sister does try to stab Sandler's character with a cake knife (he's just caused her relationship with her bother to be revealed to several dozen wedding guests, and she freaks out), so the bottle to the head counts as self defense.

I guess my reaction was based on some kind of male protective impulse or something. It may be totally reasonable self defense, but I just get uncomfortable seeing a woman bludgeoned unconscious.
