no full story line here, just a suggestion for some stories

back in the middle ages, when the countries in Europe were ruled by different kings, it was not uncommon that this monarchs were blood related.

And as far as I know, there was a law that only allowed marriages between monarchs.

You know, like: The daughter of the Spanish Queen married the french King (so she became the french Queen) . And later, their daughter (the french princess) married the Prince of Spain - so the french princess married her own uncle .... (of course I can't say if it really was like that)

But marriages like that were common (and they caused some diseases like hemophilia ....)

Also, back then, many marriages weren't made because of love - they were made because of politics. (anyone remember the tv series "Black Adder ? At first they wanted that Black Adder marries a spanish princess, but due to some new politics, he had to marry another princess .... who was just about 11 years old).

So think: There is this girl who became the Queen of France. Her husband died so now she has the full power (I guess). But due to some politic stuff, she has to re-marry ... her own brother ...

Got you, but I don't care for the marriage has to be a particular relative. Say that they have to marry one of the prince, but they get to choose which one, they are all related.

Or

Maybe not, since they are all related it doesn't matter who they marry. They'll all screw at the banquet and there after anyway.

Thinking about it more, I like your original concept.

The earlier Black Adder's rocked. Hell, Rowan Atkinson rocks. I don't know what I'd think of it, but the idea of a Lit-spin on Mr. Bean cracks me up.

As for the 'So think:' idea - that's juicy. To me, the sister would have to resent the marriage through to the end. Resenting losing her power to her brother having had her taste of it. The brother might have an ulterior motive to it beyond gaining a kingdom. Maybe a sort of BDSM thing (I'm thinking humiliation more than pain, but whetever).

It would have to be a period piece. Modern day doesn't seem to fit here.

Sorry, just my insight. Not trying to hijack here.

Incest

There is a real angle for an incest slant to any stories under this idea. It was not uncommon for marriages within families.

Marrying outside of the familiy meant having a larger extended family and therefore having to share out the money. Marriages between brothers and sisters and even mother and son were not unheard of.

The Hapsburghs (apologies for the spelling, feel free to correct) were perhaps the best known of these families. Perhaps you now have characters for a story.

I however am not going to attempt this one, I think writing in a historic setting is very great skill which sadly I do not possess.

The Egyptian pharaohs and the rulers of the Inca were bound by law to marry within the family, believing that their blood was divine and should not be diluted by marrying ordinary commoners.

You don't have to go that far back in time. At the outbreak of WWI, the royal rulers of England, Germany, and Russia were all first cousins thanks to Queen Victoria's fecundity. There was a series of communications between them "The Nickie, Eddie, Willie Letters" as they tried to head off the war.
