Laurie lowered her camera. There wasn't enough light in the dark temple
The Goddess was made out of wood. She sat crosslegged on a dais of lotus petals, her many arms arranged like a peacock's fan. In her forehead, there was an empty socket. Someone had pryed away the gem that was her third eye.
Laurie walked up to the dais. She looked up and the goddess looked down at her with her wooden eyes and her frozen smile. "You poor thing" she thought, and climbed onto the dais.
Something caught a ray of light shining in from a hole in the ceiling, and sparkled. Laurie turned to see a gem, held carefully between thumb and index fingers in one of the goddesses many hands. "She's taken the eye out herself?"
Laurie caresses the gem. It slipped into her palm. She held it out to watch it sparkle in many colors. Laurie rose up on tip toes and pressed the gem in the socket. It was radiant.
Laurie turned to sat down in the goddesses lap and leaned back. Across the temple, she seemed to see a shadow of the goddess, a bright light on her forehead. "That's odd" she thought "a play of light and shadows". Looking at the shadow, she reached up with her arms to entwine her fingers with the goddesses' fingers on two of her many hands. The wooden fingers seemed so unnaturally soft.
Was it a dream? She looked down. Two of the goddess's hands were on her knees. Where they there?. Two were on her waist, as if steadying her. She wiggled a little, but the hands on her knees and waist did not give. She arched a little, her shoulders pressing back. See could see that the arms on the shadows across the room were moving. She felt warm hands wandering on the small of her back, soft palms gliding down the back of her arms. She closed her eyes...
