In the spirit of the Master Fitness thingie

This is a tough habit to break. I absolutely hate drinking just plain water and never could quite bring it to become a good habit but I did stop drinking the sodas almost completely.

I should say that I've broken the habit and now it is just an every once in a great while thing. I'm not off caffeine by any means though as one of my supplements contains caffeine. Something about a beta receptor uptake blocker or some other such bit of science fiction trivia. No matter. I could be wrong.

The thing with breaking a powerful habit like this is to take it apart slowly. If you are able to cold turkey it that is fine but I do believe your instance of relapse is greater. So just take a soda out of your daily amount that you drink and replace it with something else that you like.

I am currently hooked on bottled water, blueberry and cranberry juice concentrates and splenda. Maybe a half ounce of each juice and enough splenda to sweeten it and then the rest water. The 16.9 ounce bottles. It isn't enough carbohydrate to mess with me in any way and the antioxidants are great. Also, it tastes good and gets me my water for the day.

I think we should hold off right now on accountability with this and just encourage you. Like the fitness thread, come up with a realistic plan that you think you can stick with and post it up. I'm sure that we'll help encourage you to hang in there.

You don't need a Dom/me

After almost 18 months of being off caffine it has snuck obsessivly back into my life over the last month.

So would there be any Doms who might be willing to help me? Just a quick daily check in. Someone to be accountable to for a while.[/COLOR]
Talk to Blue Kat.

She has the perfect partner for you to 12 step off caffiene.

I'm sure Kat will get back to you shortly, and that her suggestions will be easier on you than they are on me! I'm the "partner" that AA mentioned, by the way. Yes,I have a bit of a caffienne problem.

My usual intake:

About a pot or so of Sumatra blend or Fench Roast.

One or two fountain cokes at lunch. (32 or 44 ounce)

About 3-4 cans of coke in the afternoon, with another refill at the fountain.

If I don't hit the soda fountain again, add a few more cans of coke.

Then add coffee, tea or cocoa after dinner. (2-4 cups, ish)

I'm not going to try the cold turkey thing: I can't afford the migraines. The plan is to cut down slowly. So, I've allready tossed out the cheap refill cups for the soda fountain, and I'm not planning on buying anymore 12 packs of soda. When I run, I run out. Hot drink wise, starting this weekend, I'm doing 4 scoops of normal coffee, and 1 scoop of decaf, instead of 5 scoops of normal. Then I'm going to slowly change til it's all decaf. (I know, decaf coffee isn't 100 percent caffiene free, but I'm only trying to cut down to a human level, not completely stop. I don't wanna die!) And then, no more caffiene after 8 pm. That ought to cut my evening consumption in half, at least.

I decided not to do this with a punisher, cause I don't think it's gonna work that way. I'd rather be doing this for me, not cause I'm afraid of someone. If I had a PYL, it'd be different, cause I'd enlist their help. It's a different dynamic, though, when you ask a casual acquaintance to do this. I'd hate to end up hating someone cause I'm a caffiene addict. ;) However, moral support is always appreciated! And if you want a partner, I'm in for that!

I cut it out of my diet for about a week cold turkey... it was ugly. I had massive headaches... and just in general wasn't a very good person.

Now I still drink quite a bit, but not nearly as much as I once did. All my fluids used to come from diet soda... now most of it comes from water. I force myself to drink bottled water. I'm with Betticus... I hate plain water... adding lime really helps with mine. I will have to try the water/juice/splenda thing. I also drink unsweetened iced tea... usually green (supposed to help boost metabolism)

Sorry for the double post...

Snowy:  Is that regular soda?

Coca-Cola Classic.. I just counted.. I have 4 and a half twelve packs in the pantry...

Cutiemouse... i wish you the best of luck in kicking yoru caffiene habit... my SO has the same problem, and we have been trying to get him off of CocaCola for years now. Every once in a while he will switch to a different drink, like orange crush or something, but the need for caffiene kicks in and we are back at square one.

Myself on the other hand, drink the same amout if not more as snowy :) I find that for me its not so much the caffeine.. but the carbonation, and like Betticus I cant stand plain water. A good solution is carbonated flavoured water. There is sugar in them still, but you get the carbonation kick and NO caffiene.. so its almost as good as drinking a soda :D

Question? are the teas you are bringing home caffinated as well? Cause that isnt going to help, there are some really good de cafinated teas out there.. i would suggest finding a Tea store and buying some flavoured tea leaves and make your own iced tea and drinks...

I wish you all kinds of luck, its def a hard habit to break...

Ooh, there's a good idea. We get to reward ourselves with the $$$ we've saved! I can't decide. Books, or digi cam or save for a trip somewhere..

I am addicted also but i do know you can stop if you really want to. when i became pregnant i was a smoker and i never ever never drank water...i also drank about 4 pots of coffee a day and coke when not drinking coffee. my midwife educated me in a way that i could accept . and i was done with them both completely while pregnant and nursing. some of the things she told me were that i actually had to drink water if i was going to effectivly nurse my baby...her suggestion was to leave a glass by the sink and each time i passed to fill it and down it. no one says you have to sit around sipping water all day. that habit to this day has stuck with me.
caffeine is a diuretic also...it removes fluid from your body, which can actually make you retain fluid. it can make you achey and irritable and cause your heart to beat irregularly, you are rotting your stomach away and you will get wrinkly dry skin among a million other things. if you are going to ingest that much caffeine you NEED to drink water, which by the way makes you want the caffeine less.
Snowy...the migraines... excedrin has caffeine in it, instead of breaking the habit of not drinking cafeinated stuff ...take the excedrin. No migraine...no need to put up the pot of coffee when you feel one coming. I am not preaching just sharing a few things that have worked very well for me in the past. good luck :rose:

I like the trip idea. I've been saving up basically the money I'd have spent on cigarettes. Now, this trip thing. I believe that Cataline is trying to get some interest in going to the Netherlands. I've always wanted to go back there.

Besides, there is the red light district in Amsterdam. It's naughty and I wanna go! :D

WOW! I did the math... and the max of what you told us you drink in Coke would be 1700 calories a day!
