I am posting to address a grievous oversight. I have been working on a story, “No Controlling Legal Authority,” the link to which appears below, for over a year. I began submitting chapters in December 2001, and all that were submitted have now been posted. In my ignorance and inexperience, I sandwiched the acknowledgment of my volunteer editor at Literotica between the title page and the table of contents in a stand-alone submission, which, for reasons best known to the webmaster, has not been approved for posting. Therefore, for those who missed it, I reproduce it here:

Grateful acknowledgment is given to my dear friend LR, aka, Sprite_65@yahoo.com, without whose able assistance and keen eye I would never have learned the difference between “taut” and “taunt” and a host of other pitfalls for the unlearned.

Editing “No Controlling Legal Authority” has been no small chore, folks; it has grown to a Prologue and 28 Chapters and covers no less than 500 pages of text. LR scoured every word, every sentence and every paragraph with a devotion of attention and concentration that would shame even the highest paid editor, and she did it all for free and without much expectation of acknowledgment. She straightened out the sorts of messes that the novice leaves in the wake of his pursuit of a muddled plot, and, Lord, but did she struggle to teach me how to punctuate a simple sentence of dialogue. She did it all gently, kindly and quickly, and, bless her heart, when I realized how disjointed the story was in the early goings and rewrote the beginning, she did a lot of it a second time. So, I thank her for her skills, which are considerable, for her tact, without which I would have given up long ago, and for her patience, without which, no doubt, she would have given up long ago.

I don’t know how many of you fellow writers avail yourselves of the services of the volunteer editors here at Literotica, but from my reading of the posted stories more should than do, and that is a loss to both writer and reader. I assure you my tale has benefited greatly from LR’s gentle persuasion, and, if you want to see the results of her efforts for yourself, just click on the link below which will take you to the “Prologue,” and take it from there.

Humbled...

I am greatly humbled by your praise!

Thank you for the credit you give me and the work I do. The story was a joy to edit and will continue to be as you send more chapters (hint hint  ).

I enjoy editing for the writers who've asked me for their help. I've been amazed at the talent that's out there! Editing is something I do for a living, but it's boring legal stuff. Literotica gives me the opportunity to edit fun stuff.

Not speaking for other editors, I'm just a small part of what goes into the stories. The authors do the hard work with their imagination and writing skills, bringing to life characters on a page, something I couldn't do.

Again, thank you for the praise.

I agree completely! All the volunteer editors here on Literotica deserve high praise and much recognition. Two things they don't really get enough of, here on the boards!

I usually ask at least two different editors to look at a story before I post, and I like using the same editors for all my stories because it allows me to build up a rapport.

Since I use multiple editors and they contribute differently I have always been in a quandry about how best to recognize them. The one exception is the story that was singularly edited by cymbidia and I did credit her in the story. I give them thanks when they are done and I post the story, but considering the amount of work they do, it doesn't seem enough.
