The problem is that there's a bigger risk of physical harm when you used armed weapons to commit these crimes. This is basically giving criminals light sentences for these situations and that's only going to convince more of them to do it if they think they won't spend that much time in prison.

What a clever plan. The jump in crimes committed with firearms will naturally create and outcry for more "gun control." Also by reducing the crime to a misdemeanor there is no chance of the criminal running afoul of federal law unless there is a prior felony conviction. And if said prior conviction is on the record will the shithead that's playing at being the Attorney General prosecute said violation of federal law? Anyone taking bets on that?

Crime is the liberals' weakest issue. It is the issue where liberals have learned nothing from their mistakes made during the 1960's. Back then the prison population declined. The crime rate doubled. Social reform and social welfare spending have never reduced the crime rate. What works is more punishment, lots more punishment.
