Hello all! I've been trying to submit a story to the site and was told that I need an editor. So I sent an email to some of the editors and have yet to receive a response. If anyone can help me, it would greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! -Lisa

I don't mind helping you. It will be Monday or Tuesday before i can get to it if that is okay. I'm on the volunteer editor's program. PM me (you'll have to turn on your "pm's" for me to answer) and I'll send you my email.

send the story and i may edit it if it is not too long

I'll help you if I can.

Hi Lisa,
It is so annoying isn't it? you trawl through the list of editors & send off polite notes to editing folk who have something in common with you and some recent activity in their account and receive NOTHING.

At least a polite note to say "sorry - busy", "not my thing", or "must try harder" would be courteous.

I am not an editor, but I sympathize with your frustrations. Send me your story/work so far I'll happily give you my feedback, if I feel I can help you.

EOM x

I had the same thing happen - a couple of editors agreed to work with me and I sent them my story, only to have no response. Not even a "sorry, can't help you out".

So irritating.

So now I edit my own writings - it's a bit tedious but what are ya gonna do, right?

S'ok - I can do it myself, just takes a little longer to submit them is all.

Gina,

Not sure why, but there seems to be an aversion to nonhuman for some of the volunteer editing folks. Shoot me a PM if you want me to have a look over your next chapter. Happy to throw my $0.02 at you.

Well aren't you a darling. ^.^ Got one that's pending already - and just starting to type out Ch. 05. I'll give ya a heads up, they tend to be lengthy.

I wonder about the aversion? I really like writing non-human/fantasy stories. Anything can happen at any time and I don't feel as limited. :)

Thanks again.

Ginnnnnnnna!

In editing, as in many things, size is a matter of perspective. ;) I peeked at your previous installments and they're in a very doable six or seven thousand word range.

My entirely uninformed opinon is that non-human gets a bad rap because it's regularly done poorly. Every nitwit that's sat at a D&D table or, worse, shuffled a deck of Magic the Gathering cards, is pretty sure he's the next Terry Brooks. The results are often dreadful but forgiven by the Lit readers because "Dude, it's got dragons in it!" Fantasy is, as you say, an awfully big sandbox. Sadly, a lot of would-be fantasy authors, perhaps faced with too many options, reach immediately for the cliches: aloof elves, magic-averse dwarves, exploding gnomes, etc.

Try contacting (some of) the editors in the Available Editors this month sticky thread at the top of this forum?
