In need of a TA (closed)

Professor Matthew Baker was a professor of a large physics seminar and starting the semester extraordinarily busy. Thus, he needed to hire a Teaching assistant, so he posted signs all over campus and in the student newspaper inviting interested graduate students. He hoped to find someone quickly, but nothing seemed to be working out.

The ad read "Graduate student needed for help with grading and teaching physics 100. Must be willing to work hard, including late hours sometimes. If interested, apply in person at 111 Physics Building."

Matt was in the office late in the afternoon one Friday getting tests graded and caught up on the week's work. He had his head buried in students' assignments, and was grumbling about how little they knew about physics, and wondering how he was ever going to get his students to understand everything. He was the youngest faculty member, and as such, he had to teach the course for students who needed a science but really didn't want to take any. Little did he know that within a few minutes, his whole outlook on physics and on teaching was about to change.

OOC: Matt is about 6', 195 pounds, about 30 years old, short brown hair, blue green eyes. He tends to dress nicely for class, with turtle necks and harris tweeds, or blazers over polo shirts. He was known as a bit of a ladies man in college, but his social life has been lacking ever since he took the job as a new professor. He still knows how to handle his own when out on the town or at a party, but just has not been doing that as much lately.

Cassidy saw an add in the paper looking for a t.a;even though she did not go to the campus her sister Casha did and that is were she got the paper and Casha had told her to go for it.

After getting up that morning she showered and cleaned her silky smooth skin with vanilla body wash. Washing her red hair with some apple scented shampoo and conditioner;Cassidy wanted to be perfect getting out she put her hair in a fringe bun and gave her emerald eyes the shock they needed to stand out but putting black eye liner on.

Getting dressed in a casual black and red checkered skirt,with a white silk tank,and a black and red checkered over coat white knee highs,then completed the look with white high heels. Checking herself over in the mirror she was satisfied with her sense of fashion and walked out the door.

Walking to the room where she was suppose to meet the professor she knocked on the door and entered "excuse me sir I have an interview for the teacher assistant am I in the right place?" asking nervously as she smiled.

CJ is a 23 year old Grad student struggling to support herself in school. She is a fiesty redhead with deep emerald green eyes, 5'6" 125lbs.

Ceilia Joy Barrows, or CJ as her friends like to call her, hurried along the corridor toward the student union to meet her tutoring subject. This was her last assignment, and there was just nothing out there for work! As if the stress of Grad school wasn't enough-- the competition for internships, student teaching positions, tutoring-- even the greasy spoon downtown wasn't hiring! She paused for a moment to look at the slim offerings on the employment board; nude models for sculpting, photography, and drawing 101. She could never do that-- or could she, she thought... And then she saw it.. a new Ad that wasn't there earlier in the day... it read "Graduate student needed for help with grading and teaching physics 100. Must be willing to work hard, including late hours sometimes. If interested, apply in person at 111 Physics Building."

That would be perfect, she thought to herself. Physics was never her strong point, but it couldn't be that bad-- it was a 100 level course. She grabbed the card off the wall and hurried to meet her student. The hour went by quickly and Ceilia rushed back to her apartment to change before heading to the Physics Building. Dressed in her favorite black skirt and emerald green cashmere sweater, she brushed through her deep auburn hair. The green sweater brought out the deep emerald in her eyes. Ceilia never wore make up, except for a light sheen of gloss on her full pink lips. She smoothed her skirt before knocking on the smoked glass to room 111, and prayed the Professor would choose her...

"Come in" he called out, thinking that it was a fellow faculty member with a question. Nobody ever stopped by this late on a Friday. In fact, he never even looked up at first from his work as he heard the door open, but when nobody said anything, he finally looked up and was surprised to see a girl walk in wearing a beautiful sweater and skirt. "Hello, may I help you with something? My office hours were earlier, so if you need assistance with the course, unless it's urgent, I would prefer that you stop back later." He realized that he was being a bit short, but he also knew that the students walk all over you if they have the chance.

He still took the time now that he was looking to admire this girl. The coeds get more and more attractive, he thought, however, he knew there was nothing he could do about, and as he got older and older, there was even less he could do. The girl looked a bit puzzled, so he added, "I presume you're a student in my lecture, I am sorry, I don't know everyone, the lecture is so big it is impossible to know everyone in there."

CJ heard him call out to come in, and nervously she pushed open the heavy door. Her heart stopped. He was, well not at all what she expected! He was young.. and gorgeous!! Hardly was CJ ever left speechless, but when you expect a graying 60ish old english gentleman, and there sits someone just a few years older than her..

Hello, may I help you with something? My office hours were earlier, so if you need assistance with the course, unless it's urgent, I would prefer that you stop back later."

CJ stood there for a moment, his deep fluid voice washed over her, as his slight irritation begain to register with her...

"I presume you're a student in my lecture, I am sorry, I don't know everyone, the lecture is so big it is impossible to know everyone in there."

"No, no!" she stammered " I'm here about the job... the Teaching Assistant position that was posted in the Student Union. I'm sorry, if this is a bad time, I just didn't want to lose out to anyone.. else..." She stammered, looking around the empty lecture hall realizing that students weren't beating down the door for this job. "I'm sorry.. " she continued, straightening her posture and holding her head up, she walked over to him. " My name is Ceilia Joy, CJ-- my friends call me-- I'm a Graduate student here. I saw your job posting today and my tutoring job is ending, well.. today" she finished as she stuck out the hand containing her resume and student trancript. "Physics isn't really my thing, I am an English Lit major- but I took this course, years ago, and I am sure it will come right back to me. So, I hope you'll consider me."

She waited, watching his eyes look her over before turning his attention to her resume. She slipped one hand behind her back and crossed her fingers and waited in the silent room....

"Oh great," he thought. An English Lit major? What is she doing here? She took the course. Hardly qualifies her as a good TA for a physics course, but there was something about her, in her eyes as she stood there in his clutter-filled, cramped office, that made him think maybe she would be a great worker. He thought that if she took time enough to show up on a Friday afternoon, maybe she was committed.

"OK, Miss CJ, I am Professor Baker, as you already saw I teach Freshman Physics, and am in need of some assistance. Most of the work you would do would be grading homeworks and test and the like, but you would also need to cover my class sometimes, occasionally you would have to set up lab equipment and things like that. However, as you are an English Lit major, I am concerned that your physics knowledge is not nearly enough to cover this course. How can I be certain that you will be able to do the job." Matt was always blunt, sometimes too much so for being such a young professor, but he knew that it was a way that the students appreciated, even if they did not like it.

"So CJ, consider this your impromptu interview, why should I hire you for this job?What makes you the best candidate," he asked as he looked down at her resume and started thinking long and hard about whether or not this girl in front of him was really the best for the job, and would she be able to handle the intensity of being not only a physics TA, but his TA.

Thinking quickly was something that CJ was good at. She had talked herself out of many sticky situations with anyone from Law Enforcement to Store Clerks to Professors. What could she offer that would make him believe that she was the best choice for this job...

"Well, Sir," she started, slowly.. thinking-- " In my undergraduate work at UCLA, I did take physics, chemistry, biology and advanced A&P-- and I carried a 4.0 GPA for the entire 4 years of my studies. I had once thought I might go Pre-Med, but my love for literature won out. I am familiar with operating the lab equipment involved for your course-- and I do learn very quickly-- I am sure you would be pleased with my work, if you would give me a chance..." She trailed off as she watched him reading over her resume and transcript, unsure if he was even listening to her. Maybe she didn't want to work for someone who would come across as so arrogant and full of himself! She waited for his response, and as the seconds ticked away.. she began to fume! Not only had she been able to talk herself OUT of some sticky situations, she'd also found herself in plenty of trouble due to her firey irish temper! She felt the blood rush into her cheeks.

"Excuse me, Professor... but if this is a bad time, or if you are just not intereseted in me because I lack the qualifications you were hoping to find, then please-- don't waste either of our time another minute! I am a serious student, and worker, and willing to do whatever necessary to be successful here! I don't have family or other obligations, and can give you as much time as you desire for this position..."

She was ready to turn on her heel and leave the office, when he finally looked up at her...

"So sounds like you're pretty well-versed, then, and have some experience." he said as she started to get irritated. "Also looks like you're a bit feisty and have a bit of a temper on you, probably Irish to match that red hair of yours, I am guessing." He looked her over and could almost see the steam coming out of her ears. "If you are going to lose your cool that easily with me, how are you going to handle the students who will be at your door first thing on Monday morning, CJ? You're hired." He was not sure why he was doing this, hiring an english lit major as a TA, but it's not as if he was hiring her for research.

"Now, my next question is do you have any time tonight to get started? I can make it up in some payment in your first check by adding extra hours. I really need assistance in getting these homeworks graded. Or if you want to keep storming around and walk out, be my guest, but unless you have big plans, I could definitely use some assistance.

Matt looked at CJ to see what her reaction would be. He thought she was cute but he was not sure how well she would work out with her awful temper. If that set her off that quickly, he knew that the students were going to drive her batty.

She blinked in disbelief as he offered his observation of her quick temper and he almost seemd to be smirking when he asked her how she would handle students knocking at her door at 8am! She slowly relaxed as he offered the job and continued on, with seeming disinterest while he asked her to begin immediately--!

"I.. no, I don't have plans, I can start tonight.. I'm sorry Professor, its just that, well men in general tend to think of me as, well-- incapable of holding my own. So, I get a little defensive when .. Well, it dosen't matter. Thank you. I am sure you won't be disappointed."

CJ slipped her jacket off her shoulders and hung it over the coat hook behind the door. She flipped back her long hair, straightened her sweater and turned around. "Where do we start?" She asked, smiling brightly at him.

"Well, CJ, we can start by getting something to eat. It is going to be a long night here, as we have over 50 papers still to grade. I hope that is ok with you." Matt knew how long it takes to grade papers, and he was going to have to train her and get her up to speed. It could take a very long time, the hiring of a TA was always a time sink to start, but it typically ended up paying off in the long run.

"SO what type of food do you like? My treat" He really was hungry and wanted to get them something quickly. It always made the grading go faster. He tried to make small talk as well, "So any hobbies? Things that you do for fun? I hope I am not keeping you from seeing your boyfriend tonight" He was truly being just pleasant. She was incredibly attractive however, and her hair looked fantastic, as did the rest of her body as she took off the jacket.

"Decide on the food yet?" he asked as she was sitting quietly, not really saying much. He was concerned that perhaps he had not made the greatest of choices, but he really needed the help and had to do something to make it all work, he was just so busy, he was going to have real issues if he could not keep up with the course this semester. His students always got frustrated when he did not get homeworks and quizzes back to them quickly. He smiled at her to make her feel more at ease, wondering if it she was nervous.

CJ didn't realize she had been staring at him until he asked again about food. It occured to her now that he was really good looking-- and young, for a professor. His eyes were an intense blue/green and his dark hair just brought them out even more. She felt her nipples under her sweater, and for the moment, she was thankful for the dark green, thick sweater- despite its clinging fit.


" Why don't we just order a pizza... it's fast.. they'll deliver.. and we won't have to waste any time... " She felt her self blushing, even though he seemed very much at ease, while he pulled a chair over to his desk for her. He continued to press her for details; hobbies, activities, boyfriends. None of which she had, " I'm pretty serious about my studies right now.. I just want this Masters degree done with!" Probably he thought she was some sort of geek, but seriously-- he was gorgeous, older and clearly way out of her league!!

They made small talk while waiting for the pizza to arrive.. university news, sports teams, academics, they even touched on some of the things she would be doing for him as his TA. CJ couldn't stop the mini-fantasies that took over her thoughts as he explained the potential for evening and weekend work. She imagined accidentially walking in on him while he was masturbating in his office.. or him just bending her over his desk and taking her! Maybe it was is initial agorant attitued that had fueled her attraction, she did love a challenge, or maybe it was the way he smelled sitting so close.. so deliciously sexy.

The harsh knock on the door snapped her back into reality and she stood abruptly as tho she had been caught in her thoughts!

"The pizza" she blurted!

"It's on me, remember," he said, as he walked up and paid the delivery guy for the pizza and the two beers that he had also ordered. "I hope you don't mind, I got us each a beer, it always helps the work to go faster, CJ". He set the pizza down and opened the box, cutting the slices apart so they could take as much as they wanted. He put two on a plate for her and handed it to her with an open beer and he took three for himself and opened his beer as well. "To a succesful night of grading," he raised his glass.

He buried himself in the papers as he ate, occasionally glancing over to see how she was doing. She was definitely a very attractive young woman, and she surely knew how to dress to impress. Her sweater highlighted her body very well, and her hair stood out as well against the green sweater. He licked his lips a little as he had some naughty thoughts of the things that he could do with her, but certainly it would not be appropriate. To take advantage of the teacher-pupil relationship, whether with a TA or a student, was wildly wrong. He knew better, and despite wanting to proposition her at that very instant, he refrained from doing anything too wild. However, he did let his leg slip over and against her. Sure he knew it was very seventh grade, but he wondered if she would notice and respond in any way. He took a big drink of the beer and graded some more, looking up at her more frequently, wondering what she would look like without the sweater, the skirt.

Finally, he started trying to come up with some way to figure out if she had any intentions here beyond just being a TA. "How awful" he thought to himself, knowing that she was just a desperate grad student trying to find money anywhere that she could. He remembered those days. He also remembered what it was like to be a 20-something college student who worked all the time, he knew that sex was the second-most common thing for them to think about after their research. It was tough to come up with a method to bring up what he was thinking and seem ethical, but he thought he had a way.

"CJ, before we get any deeper in our work tonight, perhaps we should discuss the terms of your appointment as my TA," he started, knowing it was a bold step he was about to take.

CJ watched him walk to the door, reach into his back pocket for his wallet and pay the delivery kid, who, went through great pains to look around the room. He nodded and smiled at the professor in a way that CJ quickly recognized as appreciation. Her face flushed hot and she wonderd if Professer Baker had responded to his approval in any way.

She quickly looked back to her papers when he turned around, not wanting him to know she'd been watching. I hope you don't mind, I got us each a beer, it always helps the work to go faster, CJ". " Oh no, thats great... " she tried to smile easily, naturally, as she took the beer, and the pizza. "Thanks".

She would have been an idiot not to feel the tension in the room as they sat in silence reading papers and grading, asking occasional questions-- for clarification only, CJ was proving to him easily that the material was not above her intelligence! Even when she felt the jolt of electricity from his knee making contact with hers, she kept her breathing even... was this real?! It was such a light touch, but she was acutely aware of his proximity to her... She felt like she might explode from the tension in the room! Maybe she should just hurl herself at him and get it over with! Maybe they would BOTH feel better if they got it out of the way!

CJ looked up at him slowly..."Terms?" she asked hesitantly... biting into her lower lip hard to keep her focused on his words and not his mouth....

"Yes, terms, CJ, you don't do this for free, and I still have a risk involved in taking on a TA who is not in my department. So, there are some terms." He hesitated, not sure what to do here exactly, but continuing. "If you want to maintain a job with me, you will be expected to do additional special work above and beyond the normal call of duty." He paused again, looking at her face for details, trying to get a read.

"I don't have a lot of money, research dollars are tight right now, even tighter for students who are only teaching and not really researching. So, my deal I make is this. You want to keep your job and make some money, you not only work as my TA, but you'll be expected to do things with me outside of work." He was intentionally being vague, so as not to cross the dangerous line into sexual harassment. However, if he was reading her correctly, he did not have to worry about that.

"So, CJ, do you understand the predicament I am in. The physics department has hardly any money, and so for me to offer it to you, I need a damn good reason. Do you think you can help me to find those reasons, and hopefully frequently?" Again, he was being very vague, allowing her to reach her own conclusions, and watching her beautiful body carefully for signs of reaction.

He actually wanted more than anything to get out of the office right now in the worst way and head home. He finished off his beer and started to look around anxiously, not getting a response yet from her, and wondering if he went too far, wondering what his exit strategy might have to be.

CJ listend as he explained the prediciment of her being hired as a non-majored TA. He wanted to help her out, but the funds just weren't there to support an english lit major working as a physics TA. She took a long pull of her beer and set the bottle down on the desk. Sitting back in her chair and crossing her legs, hands resting in her lap, it began to dawn on her exactly what he was saying. CJ was not stupid or naieve. She would be working for him, attending functions or parties with him, and sleeping with him... if she understood his body language and how delicately he was wording the 'terms'.

"So, let me just make sure I am completely clear her, Professor. I can work as you TA provided that I am willing to put in long hours reading and grading papers, setting up your labs, acting as your 'date' when necessary--and sleep with you?"

Inside her heart was doing flips as she tried to maintain a serious tone in her voice- but the thought that this gorgeous man would have even the remotest interest in her was..just.. wild! She watched as his face flushed slightly, but he too maintained his composure well. He was just as good at this as she was. Maybe she had met her match!
She continued:

"I've never been offered a job with such terms-- or benefits, I suppose, depending on how you look at it. But I wonder, Professor.. surely your partner or wife wouldn't approve of the terms of this employment?" Depending on his reply... if he was truely single--she might just start satisfying the terms of her employment tonight!

He was very surprised at her interest in the apparent terms, especially when she added that she would sleep with him. He knew then and there that it was clearly on her mind as well, or she would never have brought it up.

"That's right, CJ, you do what I ask, and I will make sure that you are paid very well from the physics department. I will manage the issues of paying a lit major out of the physics budget." He smiled to himself at the idea of getting her out of her clothes and starting right now, but he knew that he would have plenty of time for that, no need to press the issue at this instant. He took a swallow of his beer as well, his eyes locked on hers, making sure that he could see exactly how she was reacting.

Matt chuckled at her question of his elgibility. "I have no wife or partner, CJ, or I would never make such a request of you. I suppose whether you think of it as benefits or terms depends on exactly how you suggest that you fulfill your duties and how interested you are in the job." He grinned a big grin at her, leaning back in his chair, wondering what was going to happen next.

"So, CJ, this is a take-it or leave-it deal. I'll give you a few minutes to decide. If you choose not to accept, it is fine, you can be on your way, compensated of course for your grading this evening. Otherwise, I can give you the formal offer sheet for an assistantship and get you started on your way, I can process the papers in the office on Monday." Matt was very interested to see just what CJ would decide, although he was pretty certain how she was leaning.
