This is a song I found shortly after the World Trade Center attacks. I thought, and continue to think, that it makes a fitting tribute. It's called "The Only Living Boy in New York" and it can be found on Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water album.

Tom, get your plane right on time.
I know your part'll go fine
Fly down to Mexico
Do-n-do-do do-n-do-do and here I am,
The only living boy in New York.

I get the news i need on the weather report.
I can gather all the news i need on the weather report.
Hey, I've got nothing to do today but smile.
Do-n-do-do do-n-do-do here I am,
The only living boy in New York.

Half of the time we're gone and but we don't know where,
And we don't know where.

Here I am...

Tom, get your plane right on time.
I know that you've been eager to fly now.
Hey, let your honesty shine, shine shine.
Do-n-do-do do-n-do-do and here I am,
Like it shines on me,
The only living boy in New York,
The only living boy in New York.

May I add to this?

Billy Joel

New York State Of Mind

Some folks like to get away
Take a holiday from the neighborhood
Hop a flight to Miami Beach
Or to Hollywood
But I'm talking a Greyhound
On the Hudson River Line
I'm in a New York state of mind

I've seen all the movie stars
In their fancy cars and their limousines
Been high in the Rockies under the evergreens
But I know what I'm needing
And I don't want to waste more time
I'm in a New York state of mind

It was so easy living day by day
Out of touch with the rhythm and blues
But now I need a little give and take
The New York Times, The Daily News

It comes down to reality
And it's fine with me 'cause I've let it slide
Don't care if it's Chinatown or on Riverside
I don't have any reasons
I've left them all behind
I'm in a New York state of mind

It was so easy living day by day
Out of touch with the rhythm and blues
But now I need a little give and take
The New York Times, The Daily News

It comes down to reality
And it's fine with me 'cause I've let it slide
Don't care if it's Chinatown or on Riverside
I don't have any reasons
I've left them all behind
I'm in a New York state of mind

I'm just taking a Greyhound on the Hudson River Line
'Cause I'm in a New York state of mind

I don't have a song...or a poem....I only have my heart and that goes out to all who have lost someone on this awful day...Whether you live here in the United States of America or someplace else this attack was an attack on all of us...These people didn't care about the lives of others...they didn't care about themselves either....I feel sorry for them...They will rot in hell for what they did...

  GOD BLESS AMERICA...MY COUNTY ....MY HOME..

Thank you all.

I don't think this will happen, but if i may, i have an idea to help pay homage to those who died.

turn off your tv's, your computers, and your radios. Find a quiet spot somewhere, and just reflect. Far too much attention is paid to the media, and tomorrow most of the major networks will be running full coverage on the attacks almost the entire day. It will be a giant wall of noise, and in that noise, many of us may forget or become immune to the reality of the situation.

you don't have to spend the whole time in the quiet, just an hour or two. just long enough to think about all that has happened in the past year, and what impact it might have for the future.

Here is the new song from Bruce Springsteen (Title cut from his new CD) that says it all...a dear friend of mine lost everything material in the collapse (lived two blocks from the WTC)--thank god you are alive Chris!

The Rising

Can't see nothin' in front of me
Can't see nothin' coming up behind
I make my way through this darkness
I can't feel nothing but this chain that binds me
Lost track of how far I've gone
How far I've gone, how high I've climbed
On my back's a sixty pound stone
On my shoulder a half mile of line

Come on up for the rising
Come on up, lay your hands in mine
Come on up for the rising
Come on up for the rising tonight

Left the house this morning
Bells ringing filled the air
Wearin' the cross of my calling
On wheels of fire I come rollin' down here

Come on up for the rising
Come on up, lay your hands in mine
Come on up for the rising
Come on up for the rising tonight

Li,li, li,li,li,li, li,li,li

There's spirits above and behind me
Faces gone black, eyes burnin' bright
May their precious blood bind me
Lord, as I stand before your fiery light

Li,li, li,li,li,li, li,li,li

I see you Mary in the garden
In the garden of a thousand sighs
There's holy pictures of our children
Dancin' in a sky filled with light
May I feel your arms around me
May I feel your blood mix with mine
A dream of life comes to me
Like a catfish dancin' on the end of my line

Sky of blackness and sorrow (a dream of life)
Sky of love, sky of tears (a dream of life)
Sky of glory and sadness (a dream of life)
Sky of mercy, sky of fear (a dream of life)
Sky of memory and shadow (a dream of life)
Your burnin' wind fills my arms tonight
Sky of longing and emptiness (a dream of life)
Sky of fullness, sky of blessed life

Come on up for the rising
Come on up, lay your hands in mine
Come on up for the rising
Come on up for the rising tonight

Li,li, li,li,li,li, li,li,li

Ask and you shall receive--here it is Jen!

Paul McCartney
Freedom

This is my right
A right given by God
To live a free life
To live in freedom

Talkin' about freedom
I'm talkin' 'bout freedom
I will fight
For the right
To live in freedom

Anyone tries to take it away
They'll have to answer
'Cause this is my right

I'm talkin' about freedom
Talkin' 'bout freedom
I will fight
For the right
To live in freedom

I'm talkin' 'bout freedom
I'm talkin' 'bout freedom
I will fight
For the right
To live in freedom

Everybody talkin' 'bout freedom
We're talkin' 'bout freedom
We will fight
For the right
To live in freedom

I'm talkin' 'bout freedom
Talkin' 'bout freedom
I will fight
For the right
To live in freedom

I'm talkin' 'bout freedom
I'm talkin' 'bout freedom
We will fight
For the right
To live in freedom

Just a few words if i may..this is my message to OSB.

We were knocked down, and yet we still rise.
We took eachother's hand, and we came together.

You thought you could devide us, and look, you were wrong.
We're all family in this beautiful country we call the U S of A.

You keep running, and you keep hiding..like the coward you are..you hear that???

WE'RE COMING!!!!!!!

Well....as most fo you know i'm not American.....
And I don't have any song lyrics....
I just wanted to come and pay my respects...
To all that didn't make it home on that day...
To all those who said 'see you later' to thier loved ones and never saw them again.....
To those brave guys from the emergency services who didn't give a thought for thier own safety....
And to the 67 British people who died on September 11th....

Having honorably retired tattered and discolored American Flags in the proper manner as a teenager at the summer camp I used to work at, this song always had a strong impact on me. I put it in the CD player and turned the volume WAYYY up.

Whenever I hear it I think of the people who've fought and given their lives for our country, on a battlefield, in a courtroom, on our own city streets. I remember a group of us cutting up worn out flags into tiny pieces, only one or two colors per piece, and dropping piece by piece into the campfire later that night, while telling a story of each particular flag's history, where it was flown, Etc. and what it meant to us to be "American."

Ragged Old Flag

by John R. Cash

I walked through a country court house square
On a park bench an old man was sitting there
I said, “Your court house is kinda run down”
He said, “Naw, it’ll do for our little town”
I said, “Your flag pole has a leaned a little bit
And that's a Ragged Old Flag you got hanging on it”
He said, “Have a seat” and I sat down
“Is this the first time you’ve been in our little town?”
I said, “I think it is,” he said “I don't like to brag
But we're kinda proud of that Ragged Old Flag
You see, we got a little hole in that flag there
When Washington took it across the Delaware
And it got powder burned the night Francis Scott Key
Sat watchin’ it writing ‘Say Can You See’
And it got a bad rip in New Orleans
With Packinham and Jackson tuggin’ at its seams
And it almost fell at the Alamo
Beside the Texas flag but she waved on through
She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville
And she got cut again at Shiloh Hill
There was Robert E. Lee, Beauregard and Bragg
And the south wind blew hard on that Ragged Old Flag
On Flanders Field in World War I
She got a big hole from a Bertha Gun
She turned blood red in World War II
She hung limp and low by the time it was through
She was in Korea and Vietnam
She went where she was sent by her Uncle Sam
Native Americans, brown, yellow and white
All shed red blood for the Stars and Stripes
In her own good land here she’s been abused
She’s been burned, dishonored, denied and refused
And the government for which she stands
Has been scandalized throughout the land
And she’s getting threadbare and wearing thin
But she’s in good shape for the shape she’s in
Cause she’s been through the fire before
And I believe she can take a whole lot more
So we raise her up every morning, take her down every night
We don’t let her touch the ground and fold her up right
On second thought I do like to brag
Cause I’m mighty proud of that Ragged Old Flag.”

Trixie.

Thank you for stopping in and offering your respects. Time and time again I was approached by people in London (I was there a year ago) complete strangers, who'd hear my accent, and offer me a hug or a "I hope all your loved ones back home are alright" I also have a picture of an American Flag hanging up inside a pub with a "Please post this page to show support and solidarity to our American friends" And like you said. This event didn't just effect the lives of Americans. The loved ones of at least 67 British citizend are coping with the same loss.

Brits and Yanks love to playfully poke fun at each other, but we're also the quickest to express empathy, and comfort each other or pay our respects in tough times. You're great people!

I'm refusing to watch TV today. I don't want to see other people's pain, especially of those who lost the people closest to them. Here's what I'm going to do today to honor my heritage:

Drink Coca Cola
Eat a Burger
Wear blue jeans and cowboy boots
Drive a V8 Plymouth
Listen to Rock & Roll or Country music
Smile and say "Hi" to complete strangers I pass

Pretty much business as usual for me, as I try to go about my daily life, but the difference will be that I'll be thinking about what being an American means to me while I pull on the cowboy boots and turn up the Johnny Cash.

MAN IN BLACK
Writer: Johnny Cash

Well, you wonder why I always dress in black
Why you never see bright colors on my back?
And why does my ap- pearance
Seem to have a sombre tone?
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down
Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town
I wear it for the prisoner
Who has long paid for his crime
But is there because he's a victim of the times.

I wear the black for those, who've never read
Or listened to the words, that Jesus said
About the road to happiness, through love and charity
Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me.

Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose
In our streak-of-lightnin' cars and fancy clothes
But just so we're reminded of, the ones who are held back
Up front there oughta be a man in black.

I wear it for the sick and lonely old
For the reckless ones, whose bad trip left them cold
I wear the black in mournin', for the lives that could have been
Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.

And I wear it for the thousands who have died
Believin' that the Lord was on their side
I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died
Believin' that we all were on their side.

Well, there's things that never will be right, I know
And things need changin' ev'rywhere you go
But 'til we start to make a move, to make a few things right
You'll never see me wear a suit of white.

Aw! I'd love to wear a rainbow every day
And tell the world that ev'rything's OK
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back
'Til things are brighter I'm the man in black.

In 15 to 30 years from today, our children and our children's children will learn of these events and those of a year ago and wonder why it's important they pass a test about it, just like we did while reading our history book about WWI, WWII and Korea, and then some of us had a taste of living with Vietnam, but unless you went there, you don't have a clue.
But now why know why, and understand I hope the importance of learning history with our own eyes and like never before know it first hand without the lean the media puts on it.

Maybe not watching the TV and all the coverage works for you, but if you did these last few nights, and watched the faces of the people, the polie officers and firefighters that were an unwilling piece of this history, heard their voices as they did what usually they don't, and that's open up and talk....

Yes, take a moment to remember, wear the jeans and boots, wear the colors of your nation and be proud of yourself and the next time your pass a police officer, firefighter, medic or a veteran and you see something in their eyes disturbing maybe offer two simple words that will soften their glare then move on..... Thank You

I'm logging off now. To those of you who lost loved ones and friends, we remember you and are praying for you now. To all of us who lost some of our freedom that day, let's work to regain it.
