In Greece, playing a shoot-'em-up video game could land you in jail.

The Greek government has banned all electronic games across the country, including those that run on home computers, on Game Boy-style portable consoles, and on mobile phones. Thousands of tourists in Greece are unknowingly facing heavy fines or long terms in prison for owning mobile phones or portable video games.

Greek Law Number 3037, enacted at the end of July, explicitly forbids electronic games with "electronic mechanisms and software" from public and private places, and people have already been fined tens of thousands of dollars for playing or owning games.

I know Greece is a long way off, but does anyone have any thoughts about governments just slapping a hasty, ill thought law up there?

Is the Greek government really unable to distinguish between a game and gambling? Can anyone really be that dense? IMO, they're just being lazy and decided to get rid of all electronic entertainment at once. In a way, very much like the phrase "Kill them all and let God sort them out".

I really hope that if the case gets as far as the EU court, someone comes to their senses. This is just too ridiculous to let stand.

It won't last. People will start to protest, jails get overcrowded, fines unpaid, and before the year's up, the law will be withdrawn

And oh yeah...................

..........The Greece governement that approved this law and take it and shove it up their ass......happy? I said it

You know, when I first clicked on this thread, I had a completely different idea of what it was about. Maybe I'm just a pervert, but when I see the words 'Greece' and 'Boy' in the same sentence, electronic games aren't the first things to pop into my mind.

:D

That's because you're a flat-out pervert.

But I am rather horrified by this. If I take my laptop which is loaded with games to Greece, I might not be able to come back. Granted, Greece is nice, but I wouldn't want to stay in their jails.

Yeah, but since you're not a 'Boy', won't you be okay?

I'm not a boy? Are you sure? :D I'm thinking that I must have misplaced something. Oh shit, oh dear.

As one of the few full blooded greeks on the Board <glam, i'm looking your way here> I apologize for my people...we are behind on the times...and things are pretty fucked up over there...i mean, its Greece.

I love it over there, but seriously, the way that country is run...<shakes head> its fucking rediculas.
