Is there actually a movement to ink out the word "God" on dollar bills or stamping them "Atheist money" ?

Since "In God We Trust" on money became standard in the 50's as a result of McCarthyism and anti-communist paranoia, I would be all for getting rid of it. Why stamp it "Atheist Money" though?

Why are you talking like there is real money in the United states. Read those pieces of paper in your wallet. They are 'Federal Reserve Notes' in essense{sp} they are a merely a fancy I.O.U. note form the governement to you and from you to whom ever you choose to trade it with for a commodity or service.

Now now, i'm gonna be one of those in a couple of months so I need to exploit it as much as I can :)

Does that mean its really like Monopoly money? Is this all just one big game we're playing here? Leave it to a Canadian to show us the truth about ourselves. ;)

began in 1864. Congress did make congress did make it mandatory for all coins in the 50s

1864 Two-cent piece
1866 Quarter, Half Dollar, Dollar, all gold coins
1909 One cent
1916 Ten cent
1938 Five cent

Why should it remain *In God We Trust* since obviously not everyone does? I'm sure it could be eliminated or replaced with something appropriate for the entire country.

Of course I could care less what my money says as long as it still works. I'm really not the type to get my panties in a bunch over some words on a coin.

Because if they put the whole phrase "In God we trust, all other pay cash" on the coins, the print will be too small to read.

I've never heard of this movement. Are you just trying to stir the pot? And when will we agnostics get our turn to be on the money?

Our dollars aren't as nicely colored as Monoply money and my game is Cut-Throat Scrabble anyway.

come to canada, we have nice money....and no reference to god.....very colourful.....but the one and two dollar coins are a pain

Same in UK...

...where our paper money are only IOUs. The legend on our notes say "I promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of (and here follows the denomination of the note). The "I" is the Governor of the Bank of England.

This is all backed up by the gold reserve. Hope they don't run out of the stuff!
