Jack Carlson looked at his cards and quietly shook his head. He had needed a King to cover a straight but didn't get it. The problem was not so much losing because it's part of gambling. Jack knew from experience that you win some and lose some. But today he thought he was going to win big but ended up losing four thousand dollars. He knew his loses were now totally close to six thousand and the casino would want their money.
As he walked away from the table, he knew he couldn't tell his wife, Audra. She would never understand how he could lose so much. Heading to the parking lot, he was stopped by security who directed him to the main office. Entering the office, he was ushered into a back office where he was met by James Houser, a large black man who ran the casino. James was upset and Jack knew he was in trouble just looking at the grimace on the man's face.
The discussion was brief and to the point. Jackson wanted his money and he wanted to know when Jack was going to pay off his debt. Jack tried to reassure James that he was good for the money and he had part of it socked away in some investments.
James looked at the money had in front of him on the table as he pondered Jack's words that he was good for part of it. "Tell you what man ..... I'll come by tomorrow night at your house and you had better have the money or else."
Jack walked to the parking lot wondering how he could cover the entire debt. He decided that when James showed up at his house he would try to reason with him and allow him to pay a portion and then he could get the rest within a few weeks. What he didn't know was how to tell Audra that he lost a hell of a lot of money.
