IN A SMALL MOTEL by John D. MacDonald

3 stars

The widow Ginny Mallory owns a 15 unit motel outside Hooterville. Johnny owns the gas station across the hiway and rents a room from Ginny, and Don Ferris is a lawyer hot and bothered for Mrs.Mallory. Then J.L. Brown checks in, and soon takes everyone hostage. He recently stole $400K but is senile as hell and gets captured by his victims. The rest of the book is about what to do with Brown and his suitcase fulla cash.

This was early, early MacDonald.

My John D. MacDonald books about Travis McGee are among the few real books that I've held on to through all the moves I've had to do over the years.

I just bought a copy of "In a Small Motel" on my Kindle. It's a 99 cent buy and I'll get to it when I've finished the previous two books I bought.

Thanks for mentioning it.

I read "In a Small Motel" last week. I didn't expect it to be so short - guess I should have read more about it when I got it on Kindl.

It's good. I'll have to look into more of J. D. MacDonald's "Non McGee" stories.
