I was just wondering if this is allowed. Basically, the story would begin on the girl's 18th birthday, with allusions to the fact that some hanky panky had gone on previously. There wouldn't be much in the way of flashbacks, but it would still be there.

Is this allowed?

i've left my answer to this in the how to forum - i think it should be in the authors hangout

I would think only the barest reference would be okay such as "We went to bed on her 18th birthday, which was the day we met. From what she told me, I was the first man in her experience who hadn't committed statutory rape." I made a reference something like that in a story I wrote "I Give Directions to Kelly Bundy".

I wrote a story called "High School Heinie" which implied that the participants in the action were under 18. The story was told in the form of remembrance of younger days. It's the most read story I've posted here.

Just so long as no illicit acts are commited by minors, it's bulletproof from obscenity charges.

Indeed, the written word, unless you say "This is a true story" [and probably even then] is basically bulletproof.

Juliet was underaged, but every schoolchild reads THAT play.

I think this has been adressed before in another thread, but it bears repeating. As long as you don't provide details or explain what happened in a characters past you are fine. If you implicitly state the character is 18 and then flash back to two years before (when she was obviously underage) and describe how she lost her cherry to the quarterback it will probably be rejected.

If you say she is 18 and mention that she seemed to be too good at what she was doing to have no experience that should be fine. The key word is implied. You can imply a character had sex before 18, but you can't describe it.
