How about a story about a boy who grows up always having some kind of imaginary friend. Or so people and his parents think but the I.F. has the special ability to actually physically act when only he is around. As he grows up through his teenage years and such the "friend" becomes more and more mature.

Evenutally lead up to the Friend becoming a beautiful young girl, or more plausible, a real version of a comic character of some sort...I.E. Rogue (X-Men) or some such thing.

What do ya'll think of something along those lines?
What catagory would I have to put that under?

I think this idea has a lot of potential. If you knock up an imaginary friend, would she have imaginary kids? But seriously, I really do like the idea. Would there be any chance of her becoming really real? Does he think it is his imagination, or know it is more real than that?

I think it would go in sci-fi/fantasy.

I know I'd read it! I had several imaginary boyfriends until I was 20. Yeah it's weird, but no guys were looking at me in that way before 20. So, I had guys having frequent s... well, I think yours would be something else!

One of the first stories I read on lit. was something similar to this. The woman had dreams from the age of 10 on. They got more "mature" as she got older until she was ready then the "dream" was actually made into reality. It went under Nonhuman because the "dream" being was a vampire. I can give you a link if you desire.

I would think that if your imaginary friend isn't non-human then Sci-Fi/Fantasy would be the category.
