I'm taking you to court!!!!

I was supposed to go to court for hearings several times but all the cases had been dropped before I got there, so my only court experinces are peoples court, Judge Judy, Judge Joe Brown, Judge Mills Lane, and that other guy

Its not exactly powdered wigs and the Olde Bailey....

....but its still pretty formal here. At least as far as appearance goes. I have seen and been involved in both local levels of court.

The Provincial Court -roughly equivalent to american 'county court'

Court of Queens Bench - which is for more serious matters and is roughly equivalent to american 'Superior Court'

I've been to court twice. Wore a suit both times, and fit in. Some people dressed down a lot from there, but not the lawyers or judge. I was glad to be on the more formal end of the spectrum.

Alot of it depends on the courtroom. You wouldn't appear before the Florida Supreme Court in jeans and tshirt that reads "Don't eat the big white mint." However, in some smaller civil courts where each case on the docket may take a maximum of 10 minutes, then the code is more casual.

The courts are still pretty formal here, I've only been there on jury duty though, Boringgggg let me tell ya..lol

Was in court quite a bit to get my paternity suit settled. I always dressed, the loser didn't...of course...but the lawyers and judges did.

I got called for jury duty and was instructed that jeans were not acceptable. Everyone here in my little town wear business clothes for court.

It depends on the court. Some judges enforce a stringent dress code, others really don't care.

Personally, I'd go for practical comfort. One never knows what one will end up stepping, or sitting, in. Better to wear something easily washed.

Note: I live in Los Angeles County. Other areas may have different standards.

Powdered wigs! Do they still do that?

Yes they do.. the canadian courts are still in the medevil times and man do I mean medevil..

I Also have to agree, been to court a few times myself some ont the good side some on the I got in trouble side............All times hair cut nice pressed suite and tie on....I was not raised to go to court like a hog..........

When I get called for jury duty, I usually dress up the first day, look around, and slob down the rest of the day. What can you expect when you pay five bucks a day to people who are not smart enough to get out of jury duty.

Is it just me or the courtrooms are nothing like they are on tv? I went to court this morning for my boss (lazy ass) and was appalled at the look of the room... people wearing sweat pants, tennis, t-shirts, hats,.... even the judge hadn't shaved in a couple of days!

I appear in my dress suit and I'm setting there thinking, "Damn, I'm overdressed!" Even the lawyers.... were dressed in blue jeans!

Is this the way it is all over the country? Or is it just because this is such a small town? What are some of your courtroom experiences?

I am in court just about every day and our judges have very strict standards for appropriate courtroom attire. I live in a fairly big city but I know the rural judicial districts in our state are often not as rigid in their enforcement of dress codes.
