What a freaking day... and a great start of this cursed week.

I have 4 exams this week. Math, level D; Java programming; Internet; and Math, level C.

Today was the first math test. Now, university math is kinda complicated, with a load of rules that normal people can't manage to learn by heart. That is why we are ALLOWED to bring a "dictionary" that lists and explains the rules, to the exam. I didn't have one, so a friend of mine lend me his.
During the test, the exam guard picks up my book and starts examining it. Mine, none of the others, just mine. She takes issue with the notes scribbled on a few of the pages.
I try to explain that the book belongs to my friend, and that he's made the notes, BUT that this has nothing to do with my particular exam, as a) he never went to the university in the first place, and b) the notes are all generic, explaining the rules in the book in easier language, and they're NOT answers to the exam questions.
Still, she doesn't know enough math to tell the difference, so she tells me that she'll have to call my math teacher and ask him to take a look at it.

She kept running back and forth to my desk the whole time, picking up my book, examining it, putting it down to inspect the list of toilet visitors, coming back to me, looking into my book again... in short, embarrassing me to the whole room.
My teacher - whose name I have pointed out to her - shows up, and I figure he's gonna look into the book, tell her everything's fine, and that's it. No. He never does. The bitch doesn't bother talking to him. She prefers to confiscate my book and giving it to my teacher to inspect at his conveniance! Just to let me sweat a few days...
I ask her when I can get my book back, as I need it for my next exam in a few days, and she says she really can't tell, he'll have to look into it and see IF he can approve of it...

I've been on the phone all day, trying to track him down. Not only do I want the book approved, I want it back, WITH an apology. OK, she's only doing her job, but how come she only checked MY book and not the others? My classmate has made notes in his book, she never even looked in his! Why didn't she make the teacher look into the book when he showed up?
It's all been handled very badly.

Counterattack! Demand, in writing, a full hearing in front of whoever runs the university and the math prof. Then ask math questions of anyone, except the math prof. After a couple of unable to answers, you should not be bothered anymore, ever!

Ask if the university would consider requiring the math test to be conducted in the band room, during band practice. Of course, the answer is no. Then ask for an explanation as to why you had to take the test under approximately the same conditions.

Report the book stolen. Then accuse the proctor of stealing it. You have witnesses.

Exams are hard enough without distractions like that.
She should have taken it if she had reasonable suspicions, or taken it at the end of the exam if unsure. And then checked every other student's book.

I had open book exams (they test your application to scenarios, not your ability to remember it). Yet, we were still not allowed to take in calculators that holds formulas, waterbottles [writting on the back of hte lablel] or pencil cases, or writing on your body. They were OPEN book. You could take in anything you want. Why bothing storing it on a calculator???

Apparently they also get bomb threats in every exam block, but don't do anything about it.

Go after them, but do it smartly - no anger, offer to resit etc. You shouldn't have had writing in the book - the fact that it wasn't yours or others had writing too doesn't matter, this is about you - so tread carefully.

Still haven't been able to get hold of my math teacher. M exploded when she heard the news, and told me to call him at home. I did - he's still at work and won't be home until late, around 8pm. Well, I'll just have to call back then, won't I?

Weird, though, that he's "at work" but refuses to answer his phone...

Update

We're getting closer... I've managed to get hold of him at home... but he hides behind his teenage son (probably thinking I'm a telemarketing person), and says through this boy that he'll call me back.

It's now 8.05 pm here. Let's synchronize our watches, shall we?

And let the bets begin! Will he call back a) tonight, b) later this week, or c) never..?

Hugs...I can feel for you. It sucks to be accused of cheating. Good luck. :rose:

OK, I talked to the teacher - he actually called back within one hour, who would have thought..?

Apparently, I should be GRATEFUL that this whole thing has been handled so well, and so discretely and so informal!
OK, so the lady running back and forth was a bit wrong, he admitted that, but the alternative would have been that she had confiscated the book on the spot and written a complaint to the Board of Disciplinary Charges immediately.

The teacher HAD looked at the book while he was there, but he thought the issue was so complex that he wanted time to examin it more carefully, after the exam, together with the vice headmaster of the school - again, I should be grateful that I was allowed to keep the book to finish my exam at all!

He had been away for 2 days - like the rest of all the math faculty members, but the people in the connections booth had no knowledge of this - so the earliest he could look at my book was tomorrow, IF the vice headmaster had time for him then. He couldn't really say how soon this matter could be dealt with, but he could send me an email, if I wanted?

Now, IF I'm lucky as hell, they will look at the book, decide to let me off the hook with an informal warning - not an "excuse us for wrongfully accusing you of cheating", but a warning; and I'll get the book back later tomorrow or later this week.

However, if I'm unlucky, the headmaster will decide that I've been cheating, and that a formal letter of complaint must be written to the Board of Disc... you know. This could take X number of weeks, and could very well result in me getting suspended from my education for up to 6 weeks. Not to mention that the complaint would be on my records for ever!

I asked if there was any way I could participate in this meeting to speak for myself, but he said no. I asked when I could have the book back, seeing as it wasn't mine, I had borowed it and it should be returned to its proper owner. He asked me if the owner was a student at the university. Calm, but rather irritated, I said "as I've tried to explain to you already, the owner of the book is not and has never been a student at the university. He's not a student at all. He went to an adult class a few years ago, that's why he has that book."
The teacher then said that it didn't really matter if it was a borrowed book or my own, it was against regulations to have any kind of notes in your book.

I asked why I was the only one picked out, why no-one else had their books inspected, and he said the guards are instructed to pick a student at random for inspection, rather than inspect all of them.

I'm screwed royally here. It almost makes me wish that I HAD cheated, so that atleast this whole thing would be fair. As it is now, I risk getting punished for something I didn't even realize I was doing.

But, like my teacher insinuated, I should be grateful.

Getting fucked by the institution is the closest thing I get to sex these days.

Shit Svenska. That really sucks.

I love watching courtiers at play. And imagining them suffering hideously painful and lengthy deaths. ;)
