How do I submit and updated story...I rewrote some chapters of an existing story on Lit and want to replace what's already up there.

I think I just put EDIT in front of the title and add some notes for what I'm doing?

Is that correct?

Thank you anyone!

You don't have to ask this question every year. You could find out where the FAQ section is and consult it. This is what it says about substituting an edit:

I've re-edited my story and want to replace the posted version with my new edited one. How do I do this?

No problem! Simply submit the new version as you submitted the old one, only adding the word "EDITED" to the title (ex. "My Sexy Firefighter Ch. 03 - EDITED") so that we know to replace the old text with the new text. We will then replace the original text with the new text. Your story will retain its previous voting score and views.

Edited stories take up to 48 hours to appear correctly on the site as the pages must be regenerated by the site scripts. If after 48 hours your submission edits are still not showing, please email us a link to the work in question.

Thanks Keith! I did consult the FAQ before posting here though and couldn't find this info. Sorry...I swear I looked. Only after you posted this and I went back did I find it. LOL Oh well. Still, you're a lifesaver.

New Issue

EDITED doesn't fit after the title?

What do you guys do when that happens?

Truncate the title so EDITED does fit. Put the full title in the Notes box with a note to Laurel, plus include the url of the original story.

No. I could see that that would be a problem, but I've never edited or deleted any stories myself.

As I get better at writing, my older stuff just looks terrible. I owe it to anyone that accidentally clicks on one of them to either delete it or update it. LOL

Leave it as it is, it's part of your history and development as a writer and nothing to be ashamed about. I would only scrub over my older content if I was going to re-launch it in an anthology or something. Improve the future, don't change the past, I reckon. Write your next story :).

I feel some shame when I read old and not-so-old pieces full of typos and mixups. I don't bother fixing them because [insert excuse here]. They are done, over. Onward.
