Some jackass that needs to be kicked in the nuts gave me some kind of cold. It feels like I have ebola in my lung. Or maybe the hanta virus. Could be black death.

This is what happens, I go the entire summer nice and healthy. School season starts up and BAM! Somebody's kid goes to school, gets the scarlet fever from some other kid and takes it home to daddy who then ferries that shit to work and shares it with me.

If it makes you feel any better, i get all that shit too. i'm a teacher, and they give it to the teachers too.

And yes, i'm already sick. And the only thing that works against this one is the Benadryl that dopes me to sleep for hours, which i can't do this weekend.

Anyway, the point is i do feel your pain.

Drink more green tea. It will make you invulnerable to petty diseases.

And you can share it others. Ah giving is so good for the soul :)

This is yet one more reason I hated working with people with kids.

Does green tea have any caffeine, Marquis? i have to limit my intake of caffeine, and since a gave it up, too much gives me migraines.

Ahhhh yeah ... the nasty little snotty gift that keeps on giving.

People need to wash their hands more often ... best remedy there is, although green tea si much more effective than those stupid nasty tasting Zinc losenges (sp?).

i have 3 school aged children and all but 1 (she's 12 and since birth has what i term as the 'super-defensive immune system ... if i could bottle whatever it is that protects her from the snotty nasties and sell it ... i'd be rich) get colds now and then, but not seemingly as often as other kids.

As a hair dresser, people have sneezed on me, kids have spit on me & drooled on me and working the cash register means MORE cold germs on top of all that. It's all about clean hands. Used to be i traveled with a bottle of hand sanitizer in my purse at all times. Germs are everywhere, on money, on shopping cart handles, doorknobs, etc ect. i'm not working outside of our home right now and there IS a bottle of hand santiser by our front door. ;)

Point is, you'll get colds from vapors in the air when people cough and sneeze, and clean hands WILL cut the risks and number of colds... and reduce them a bit.

Yeah - there's a sink in our classroom, and the kids have already learned that this sink is MY sink. They can go and wash their hands in the bathroom, it's only one classroom away. The staff one is much farther.

i wash before i eat and leave, which helps some, but when a kid sneezes on you there's not much you can do.

Vitamin C helps too - but i'll be sick for a while, because this is a new school so the cold viruses are different.

It can, depending on what green tea you buy. Typically green tea has a lot less caffeine than caffeinated soda or coffee, but you can buy decaiffenated green tea. I can't preach enough about the health benefits of green tea. I probably drink almost a gallon of iced green tea a day.

In my daughter's school where she attended from kindergarten - 5th grade, every classroom had a sink, and every child washed there hands in that sink 1st thing each morning, after recess, and after lunch. Parents noted a decline in colds, and sent in soap and paper towels in turn.

i'd share the sink ... and wash the knobs and rinse the bowl after they were done if i were a teacher. Some might think it wastes too much class time, fourth grade teacher had kids reciting multiplication tables as everyone waited their turn to wash their hands. ;)

Well, if it looks like the colds are spreading i'll add morning handwashing breaks to the list. Currently we have morning recess bathroom break, pre-lunch bathroom break, post-lunch bathroom break, and pre- or post- recess bathroom break. And i still have kids asking me to go to the bathroom. Sheesh.

The thing is making sure that they wash their hands after the washroom, not so much the germs first thing in the morning. i'm working on it, i had the JKs doing it by rote by October.

i've heard a lot about green tea. i think i'll get some if it's going to help my immune system as well as give me antioxidants.

I gotta second Marquis in Green Tea. It's an antioxidant and it's awesome. It also works really good for cold sores and canker sores. Once I had seven canker sores and my grandma gave me a cup of green tea. I was sipping it and holding it my mouth cause it was numbing my sores, and the next day they were ALL gone. (well all but one, but it was gone the day after that.) And A had a canker sore last week and I gave her some green tea to take to bed with her, and when she woke up it was gone, too.

Beyond that, and I know that you all are probably going to throw snot filled tissues at me, but I have an awesome immune system. Frankly, that's why I'm so sick, my immune system is too good and attacks things it shouldn't. But I take two different kinds of meds just to LOWER my immune system, and I still almost never get sick. :p And I do day care, and three of the kids I watch are in school full time.

I gave up coffee a month ago and switched to green tea. I also do daycare in my home and every kid and their parents came down with the nasiest cold that has now lasted two weeks and I haven't even gotten a sniffle. :)

Feel better Betticus. I suggest Nyquil and lots of it.

The past few weeks I've been drinking so much green tea I think I'm now peeing chinese froth. Probably the only thing that has saved my ass so far.

Believe it or not, I think the green tea really helped with the quitting smoking.

I just recovered from this year's first plague. I'm doing my teaching internship and promptly lost my voice completely. I was given a bunch of shit about being a rookie intern and losing my voice until I managed to pass along the nasty thing and each of the teachers and aides lost their voices too. I just smiled and passed out the zinc lozenges.

I drink iced green tea with mint but this thing knocked the hell out of me. I hope everyone feels better soon. At some of the schools in my county they have hand sanitizer pumps installed by the classroom doors. Solution or part of the problem? I'm not sure.

I believe in echinacea as well.

I do too! When my daughter was little she had so many ear infections and so many doses of antibiotics as a result that her immune system was shot and she was picking up colds and sinus infections which would trigger her asthma. I started her on children's echinacea twice a day and the results were miraculous - she went from having 6-8 different illnesses every winter down to just 1 or 2. Her asthma improved and she missed far fewer days of school.

Since I moved to Australia (drier less humid warmer climate) I have had far less colds than I did when I lived in New Zealand - about 3 in the last couple of years whereas I would probably have had that many in one winter in New Zealand :D

Some people just don't give a shit about others.

I remember a few years ago when my ex's sister had a serious cold. Some of her cousins were coming over and one of them had a new baby.

My ex (who was my wife at the time) told her sister, "You'd better take something for that cold. They're not going to let you hold the baby if they can tell you're sick." My ex sister-in-law says, "Good thinking," and she wasn't being sarcastic, either.

This is part of the reason I'm divorced from that selfish family. Don't worry about the baby getting sick as long as they can't tell the baby got it from you... No harm done there, right?

We had the same problem this week. My daughter (who's 12) went to school brought it home of course. And gave it the hubby who had it longer than she did. So I have been drinking airborne praying that I do not get it as well. I wish parents would keep their kids home if they are sick. She seems to bring everything home and then we all get it worse than she does. Oh well just my two cents.

Climate makes a big difference for me too. I can't deal with cold weather climates.

I know so many people like that it's digusting. Sometimes I think every person I grew up with other than my mother is a sociopath.

Oh man that kind of attitude used to tick me off! My oldest had her tonsils and adnoids out, and tubes put in her ears a week after her second birthday. Up until then we saw the dr every 10-14 days. Her antibiotics lasted 10 days, and we were in their within a couple of days with a new infection. She had chronic bronchitis, chronic strep, chronic ear infections, and asthma.

I have lost track of the times we'd go over to someone's house and find out WHEN WE GOT THERE that someone was sick with strep or bronchitis. And it's not like we'd drop in on them, they'd know we were coming, and know of A's health problems, and wouldn't tell us. After a while K started ripping them new assholes when they did that, and they stopped. Oh, and the other thing is they'd just drop by my house when their kids were sick. I'd tell them to go home.

If you're sick, make cure everything hippy juice. I used to work in a hippy restaurant, and this juice saved the cast of my school play in grade 11 haha. Get a juicer, and juice a bunch of carrots, and an apple. Mix in as much cayenne pepper as you think you can handle, with one "finger" of ginger. Add a bit of cinamon, and a bit of noni juice if you have it, but it isnt essential. But yeah, seriously, it works like a hooker in Amsterdam.

Okay everyone. It's official. I woke up this morning and I now know what I have.

I have the black death in my lungs, hanta virus in my throat and the dreaded ebola in my sinuses.

My death is imminent. I wish you all the best but the coughing and sniffling will soon overtake me as my disease ravaged body grows weaker.

This will be the last chance for any of you to come and pat me on the head and rub my belly. And make me soup. And bring me a blanket and a pillow.
