I figured out why the sound on our computer wasn't working.

The speakers were off.

Yay!

Me too

I couldn't figure out why my sound wasn't working either, turns out I had it muted.

You have no idea how many times I've asked a person if their speakers were on, they said they were, so I told them to try everything I could think of, only to have them look up and say "oh... they're not on afterall".

You are one of the few to actuially check the power on the speakers. The tech support people salute you *LOL*

Hey Sillyman!!

You know, many people would call the computer company and complain!

(reminds me of something my sister said once - she's a computer tech - someone called complaining that the cup-holder on their computer wasn't working - umm, they were talking about the CD drive - lol)

You're brilliant!

Hmmm...

So this on/off switch-thingy here is not really a Dell decal?

I had the nicest experience the other day with a techie.

I couldn't get Outlook Explorer to find my newgroups, so I called my ISP... (what? you thought I'd call Microsoft? HA!)

And like a dumbass I was sending it to the wrong place...

And he was perfectly nice about it. I love my ISP.

But even tech support is not all it's cracked up to be. In El Paso, my wife and I had our two PC's hooked up our cable modem (Roadrunner) through a Plug and Play hub...one that we just connected to and POOF! we were on the internet. Well, after moving to Central Texas, we got Roadrunner again, and tried the Plug and Play hub again. But this time, only one of us could connect to the internet at a time, both of our PC's couldn't be on the internet at the same time. Basically, whoever booted up first got the connection. I tried everything I could think of to remedy the situation...even resorting to replacing all ethernet cables, and getting a new hub. In between solution attempts, I would call Roadrunner and ask the tech the same question, "Is there any reason why computers on my hub can't be assigned seperate IP addresses?" Because this seemed to be my problem. Each time I called, at least 5 times, I was told that the problem wasn't on the ISP's end. So after two days of fiddling with stuff, I decided to call Roadrunner one more time. I must have gotten lucky and actually gotten ahold of someone with knowledge, because as soon as I told him my problem, he said "Oh, if you have the new Toshiba USB cable modem, you will need to get a second IP for your second computer...and that'll cost an additional $9.99 a month." Now that is just plain highway robbery...my friend and his wife are hooked up through a hub also, and also on Roadrunner, in the same town I am, and they don't have to pay for an additional IP.

But this just shows you that tech support isn't always what people make it out to be.

Bob - Nahhh - that's not the tech folks fault! That's the roadrunner company, charging your high rates - asshole roadrunner CEO, yes - but the techs can only do what the company tells them to do -

You said hub, right? Try a gateway router it is about a hundred dollars and it puts both computers on the same ip address but a different sub mask.
Take Care,
