I'm Pissed! How Many Are You?

Far too many non-sexual words in the way of an otherwise sexy story! Remember, with erotica, less is MORE!

Non-sexual words are called a plot! They give a story depth, not the minimum length of some imaginary cock!

Why do I waste my life writing for these self-deprecating dicks? Maybe I shouldn't be at all.

Some people just have a short attention span and/or little sexual endurance. I think stories with a plot and emotional buildup are great; often they pay better at the end.

There are a lot of people here for nothing more than stroke material. I actually have one story posted where the sex doesn't start until page three, and I note in the author's notes that anyone just looking for the bump and grind should skip ahead to that page *laugh*

There is middle ground, though. This commenter actually sounds like one of those. They're looking for short stories dominated by sex. Just enough plot and characterization to give them three dimensions when the sex starts before the end of page 1. You usually need to have a lot of sexual suggestion even during the build-up for those readers, too.

I have pure stroke stories posted, middle ground, and even one no-sex story ( well, it does have some suggestion and a fade-to black that couldn't be anything but off-camera sex )

Every reader is different, and you can't please them all.

Give em the finger, lift your leg, fart in their direction and laugh, then move on.

Clearly, they aren't even worth that much of your time.

As a newbie here I'm glad to know others like to write plot and make a story. I empathize with you 'cause if the story I'm writing now gets posted, it doesn't have sexy stuff til page 2! Keep writing and send those whining readers off to "i just wanna jack off dot com"! ;-)

I totally agree with you, AsylumSeeker. Without plot or characterization, it's not a "story." The best and most memorable erotic stories have the best plots.

Keep doing what you do

I have enjoyed stories on this site for years and have just recently tried my hand at writing. As a newbie, I was excited to track the number of views and the rating almost daily. It's nice to know someone out there is reading you. But I didn't enter this story with any illusions of winning over the entire site.

In search of another story to read, I often go the Top Lists section to get a gage on what other readers consider the best stories. While I do find some incredible writing this way, I am constantly dumbfounded by some of the stories that make it to the top.

Don't get me wrong, I love the sex scenes; graphic, subtle, romantic, dirty. I want to be hard at the end of the story. But "he did her, and then he did her again, and then he did her a third time" doesn't really do it for me.

Keep doing what you do. You could always please the "strokers" out there, but then you'd lose the more discerning readers; and speaking as one of those who loves a well written, character-driven story, that would be a shame.

Opinions are like assholes. Everybody's got one.

:rose:

(If you like the story, if it went the direction you intended, if it makes you happy to read it, then fuck them.)

Carrying that thought further, though, everyone not only has one, but everyone also tends to think his/hers is the only one that doesn't stink.

I'd suggest saving the passion and energy for writing. Don't get that tied up in what one or a few others think--unless some of what they say makes sense to you. Everyone else isn't necessarily wrong--or totally wrong--about everything just because they aren't complimentary all of the time.

glad to hear there are more people who write as I do. I am new to this and believe that if you are going to write someone is going to read. to each his own.

Are you writing for them or for you? Keep writing to please YOU (not to appease them)

This is usually what these threads come down, but that really misses the mark, doesn't it? If you are just writing them for yourself, you just stick them in a drawer, don't you? If you post them here, you are looking for readers and for reader approval, aren't you? Let's be honest about why you'd post it.

perhaps I mis-stated... you need to write in your won style with the ultimate result being the satisfaction of the reader. some readers prefer a more intelligent approach versus the wham-bam approach. I guess we need to realize there are both types of readers here, no? As I mentioned, I'm new to this...
I can do with some feedback! thanks, sr71

I certainly agree with that. I try writing for the separate audiences that read here. That way I get trolled from both sides. :)

That just hit me wrong I guess. Thanks to all for your input.

I see you have already gotten a lot of people telling you the same thing that I am about to, but I will anyway.

Dont worry about what some asshole in his office chair with his limp prick in his hand thinks. Write your stories for yourself. Thats what I do. If I think they are finished and I like them, and just as important, if I get turned on by them while writing them, I believe they are good enough for everyone else. And, so far, I have been right. You got some negative feedback. So what. Dont let that affect your writing.

Just my two cents. :D

LOL. Yup, of course I go on writing as usual, but that struck me wrong at that moment.

Well after reading through this thread I have a wee suggestion. Why not make some new categories. How about Erotica and Pure Porn. That way those of us who actually enjoy reading can have what we want and those just looking for masturbation material can have what they want. :)

I completely understand. I post under a different writer/username for writing stories. Do not let them discourage you. I did so at first, but finally put it all in perspective. Keep in mind that Literotica is first and foremost an adult website for erotic and sexually explicit material.

I value any and all constructive criticism. You have to mentally ignore the ones that are obviously narrow minded and only seek stroke material. And stroke material is mostly what this site is about. Story depth applies to those of us who love depth as well as the sex. Stay with it. The writer within you should never stop writing something you love to write. Relish the critics who like what you do.

Not a bad idea. But it can be tough for some to make a distinction between the two. Hmmmm. Definately some 'food for thought'.

We write sex stories here? God Damnit! Why wasn't I told? :(

We try not to upset our older members.

There is a tendency to heart attacks and we are short of defibulation units.

Have you registered with management that you haven't got a heart - you get the full details then.:D

I can't understand your problem with the feedback your received. A reader took the time to read your story and comment. He/she didn't write, "It sucks!" The reader gave you an opinion. He felt that there were too many "non-sexual words" but he also stated that your story was "otherwise sexy story" which sounds like a compliment to me. The reader goes on to point out that less is more when it comes to erotica. Just another opinion.
I don't think the comment is so vile that you should question whether or not you need to waste your life writing for dicks. You really shouldn't waste your life or make writing for literotica your life. Write for yourself and your readers, if you find enjoyment in it.
