I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm getting really, really sick of this childish bullshit. It was semi-funny for a while, but now it's just stupid. Please grow up. This is an adult board. I don't expect much, but I expect a little more than this.

As the lone moderator of this board, I occasionally run into situations difficult to deal with. I'm caught between my strong belief in free speech and my belief as a human being that people have a right to not be attacked unprovoked. No matter what I do or don't do, I know that everyone here won't be happy. Do I sit back and watch 2 or 3 people (or for all we know, one person) railroad everyone else on the board, posting unprovoked immature nonsense, or do I step in and try to give the board back to the 99% of people who don't want to deal with this crap?

As the b.s. escalates, I find myself leaning more and more toward the latter. There are cliches about free speech not extending to yelling "FIRE" in a movie theater, because the harm that would cause outweighs the value of that speech. I'm personally annoyed that I even have to consider deleting posts because of their meanness and stupidity. Why the fuck can't we all just get along?

I know I'm venting in this post, perhaps even whining, but I want all of you to know where I stand. If you have any ideas of how I should deal with this, feel free to post them here or send me an email. I'm nearly at wit's end, but I don't want to make a unilateral decision. I see this board as property of all who use it. That includes the assholes, but I'm just worried that if this keeps up, they'll be the only ones using it.

I am in total agreement with you. Censorship however is not the answer. I know this might exclude some people, but perhaps this should be a registered person's only BB. Everyone can read, but only the people registered can post. I bet that would cut a lot of these games out.

I was looking at that old thread (recently revived) which was posted a month or two back - you remember the one in which we all said a little about ourselves (...and Fletch as it turns out looks like a scrawny Tom Cruise and Lash looks like a bloated Jim Morrison, etc) well we all seemed to have so much fun in those days.

I want to go back to all of that.I know that it would probably be improper to ask you to have this thread deleted - that wouldn't solve much - but isn't there a way of at least preventing someone else from posting in another's name. How could Fake Name have posted this in my name - surely that name is reserved for me?

Laural, I agree 100%. I registered because I felt I had something to say. Since I was going to take a whack at some I felt they should be able to do the same to me. I slithered around this board for quite a while before I posted but never did it until I registered. I think the idea that Lil' Debbie had was a good one. Is there a way to make this board a registered board only? Where you can read everything on here but you can't post unless you are registered... and if there is, will this in anyway help? I am asking because I have no idea what the difference is between being registerd and not being registered, if you can do the same things.

I hope you find an answer to your problem... sometimes as hard as it is, ignoring the person or people is the only way to get them to stop. When they no longer get reactions, it isn't so much fun anymore, and they tend to move on.

Yes, it's very easy to make it so only registered users can post. On many BB's, registration of some form in mandatory. The reason we haven't done so is that I know there are many well-meaning adults that come here in wanting to ask personal questions about sex, and many of them are too shy or afraid to post those questions and make their email addy known. True, these people could always get a Hotmail account which would guarantee them privacy, but I think most of them would just not ask the questions rather than go through all the trouble. If you look around (especially in the "How To" area), you'll see what I mean.

Plus, registration doesn't guarantee someone won't be an asshole. It's definitely something to think about, the required registration, but I'm not sure I want to take that step just yet. Let's see how things go for a bit..

As the former Sysop of a bulletin board in the days before everything went to the net, I know that any person deleberately trying to pass themselves off as another, or deliberately trying to stir up trouble would be locked out without comment.

I had the advantage of knowing who posted the message and blocking that person. In this case, it's your board. We are all here on your sufferance, and you have no constitutional imperitive to provide others with a forum for this type of harrassment.

This is a clear case of someone making an attempt to impersonate a reasonably well respected member of the community. The fact that he figured out that using a dash instaed of an underscore to make people think he was a registered user constitutes a form of forgery.

I say trash any further messages that are obviously inflammatory posted by unregistered users. That gives them another reason to register, and you some means of chastising them in private when they do.

Laurel, as to the idea of free speech, you cannot revoke that by your actions. You provide the hardware, software and brainpower behind Literotica and none of that obligates you to provide the platform for anyone to misuse, abuse, or annoy you or your visitors to Literotica.

Personally, I ignore these losers because to respond only elicits another inane post. I'm sure you could devise a little routine in the BB process that would simply purge any posts by testing for the presence of a user name in the poster's pseudonym but theat would only become a task as he got wise to it and changed pseudonyms.

What might work is blocking his IP address. Of course, if he's a dialup, that becomes real tough because it's dynamically assigned.

I guess the bottom line comes down to this; without losers, how do you identify the winners? There is an old adage, "'Tis better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." Some people just can't tolerate the presence of the doubt.

Laurel, while I was responding to a jackass on another thread here, I noticed the rules to another BB in which I participate. They are as follows:

1.Keep posts on-topic and please do not advertise any commercial venture.

2.Use no gratuitous profanity and do not post "test" messages. Also, when choosing to Reply to a message please do not change the subject...if you want to use a new subject header simply initiate a new thread.

3.Attack no other participant in a personal manner...debating issues is the principal purpose of this group, but any post which, in my view, constitutes a personal attack on another participant will be deleted.

Now, I don't know about the first 2, I'm kinda a big fan on going off topic and using gratuitous profanity, but Rule #3 there seems to make a lot of sense.

Hey slut_boy if you look close you will see the difference in the name. slut-boy and slut_boy not much but just enough to slid by.

I fear I may have started some of this with a post I made to Crystal/flagg about posting with an unregistered name if you wanted to say or start something but didn't want everyone to know who you were. At the time it never crossed my mind that someone would use it to hurt people.

This reminds me of fighting coyotes. First you try and live with them. Then you work at trying to keep your livestock safe while you keep them at bay. Finally when you have had enough of the senseless killing you set out traps and pray that nothing else gets caught before you catch the SOB.

Laurel...the question was: Why was it allowed for Deborah to attack me w/o provocation when I asked about Michael, why was it allowed for her to attack me when she started the 'Girls with Guns' thread? Why was she allowed to accuse me of crap without any proof at all besides her own vindictive delusions? That seems pretty much "unprovoked" to me, to quote yourself, Laurel.

I disagreed with her on a legitimate point. It's not my fault she decided to jump in with "I know you are but what am I" type responses. I always gave an opinion or actual quotes to back up my thoughts. She did not. I was willing to let it go, still she insisted on accusing me of 'stalking' her, of being (I think) 5 different people, and a whole host of other things. Why was THAT allowed, and the 'troll' has suddenly become a problem? I know the answer....because you "know" Deborah.
