This is actually a serious jobby (all u scots out there stop sniggering now).

Have had medically induced depression for 18 months now. Cost me my marrriage, my home and my self-esteem. Stopped my meds (yes HK - cold turkey) at crimbo and now feeling the full back-lash. Any help out there?

Hate my life (existence) just as well I've got you bastards :D :D :D

I'm not even qualified to make half assed guesses when it comed to that kind of things, friend. So I won't be foolish enough to try to give advice.

Just know that I'm rooting for you from over here.

Sorry to hear that, H :rose:

Yes, a good lot of us are nuts as best I can tell. If not for here, I might not exist at all anymore.

But, like Liar, I cringe from giving advice. At least I do today.

Want a *HUG* and a flower :rose:?

thanks mate. i've had huge hugs and support from lots of my PM buddies here. u r not far away really - u still comin in may? it's good to know you have friends.

minsue - YES PLEASE!!

Like i just said to Liar - just knowin that there are folk that care means soooooo much.

I blame it on the artistic temperment. ;)

But, Min's right...there's a lot of us around. Just know you're not alone, okay?

on a serious note, and thats way serious when i get serious, are you doing this with or without dr assistance?
lots of backlash from dumping meds too fast after youve been on them for a while.
if youre really concerned and need someone to talk with, pm me.
i care.

I agree with vella. Dumping meds without medical advice can be very dangerous particularly if the medication takes some time to become effective.

Been there haldir.

Except for the dumping meds abruptly. Weaned myself slowly, with a doctor's assistance.

I know from personal experience how hard it is. My marriage disintegrated under similar circumstances. It's a hard blow to take.

But it's survivable. It may not look like it now, but it is survivable. It takes a lot of hard work, and deep soul searching but you'll find a way.

I did. If I can do it, anybody can.

Don't just drop your meds. It can do screwy things to you.

I'm on anti-depressants and have been for a long time. I know a lot of people are reluctant to take meds, because they don't want to get addicted.
I was always explained that meds are simply stand-ins for the chemicals my system doesn't make normally. All those imbalances that cause depression, ADHD, and so on, the meds simply make up for it. So to me it's like...how can I be addicted to something I'm supposed to have anyway?

Thanks all.

Maybe I need to re-think my strategy.

You are the best - and I'm sorry for calling you all bastards at the start of this thread. :D

It's always good to keep looking at and revising your stratedgy :)

I have known a couple of people made into complete zombies by depression meds, it's often difficult to find the right balance for you. I'd definitely look in at your docs...and talk things through with him/her.

I'm in the process of stopping my medication for depression myself
. But I won't try going cold turkey. I cut the dose in half for about four months now. Now I'm trying to get rid off it completely but if I realize it doesn't really work out, I'm the first to visit the doc and get some new pills. Don't try that without professional advice, that'S the only advice I can give you. But I wish you all the best.

It's a day-to-day struggle over here too. Lost a job, hospitalized as a danger to myself, two and a half years trying every anti-depressent in the books and still trying: Wellbutrin, Zoloft, Celexa, Effexor, Remeron, Cymbalta, Paxil, you name it. (BTW, if you're taking Effexor, be very careful with going off it. It can do a lot of really bad things to you.)

On the other hand, a diagnosis of depression can be a tremendous relief too. It means that those feelings of worthlessness are an illness and not reality. I take great comfort from knowing that.

But what do you mean by medically induced depression?
