Im new, so im sorta shy right now...but Ive always been curious about role playing. Im not sure if this is the right forum to post in or not, but would someone help me out about role playing?
Im very serious about wanting to try it :)

Hey...I'm pretty new to this myself. Advice for you--

1. Go to Rick's Rooftop or The China Pearl Bath and Teahouse. These are out of character threads where you can meet people. They are really accepting here.

2. Jump in an open thread where it says to jump on in. Closed threads mean that they are not for everyone to jump in.

3. Have fun and don't worry about anything...no one is judging you.

And welcome--from soliloquy

Couldn't have said it better Soli.
Look around and see what people are doing, then dive in.

Sol's advice is good, and I agree!

Also, I would like to invite you to join the thread "Summer of Love" if you have any desire to go back in time and try living the part of a hippie in SF during the 60s! We are short one or two women at the moment. It's light fare, and meant to be fun, so feel free to join if it might be something you'd be interested in!

Welcome to the SRP - hopefully soon, you will be posting like you've always been here!

Is this the gathring of newbies? Cause I wanna apply for membership to the club:D
I'm kinda in the same situation right now...intrigued but not confident enough to participate..yet.

Hi Guys,

First of all, a very warm welcome to the boards, I hope you meet lots of new friends and enjoy exploring your imaginations.

I can only offer you the advice based on my own experience.

When I joined LIT last December, it was for a variety of reasons, I wanted to meet people, chat and share ideas and write something, a novel I had an idea for some years earlier. So was looking to see how people wrote.

I didn't post in SRP for quite sometime, but posted much in the Personals Forum, got to meet a few people in threads which had topics that interested me, and of course meeting people that shared similar ideas and interests.

My first leap into SRP was in a thread called Lusious Lingerie a thread created by Lipstick Kitten

http://www.literotica.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=1147785

And it attracted a lot of novices :) just like myself. Ironically I never made it to store LOL my partner stood me up on a rainy street corner and there wasn't any sex ROFL, but it was a start, it got me on the road.

With the first few posts under my belt I had the writing bug, and went in search of other places to post.

Always nervous of leaping into threads, I still am, I looked for posts with openings. Or PMed the thread starters to see if I could join.

A word on OOC threads and clubs.

Yes I am in an OOC thread, and they are fun but they can also be destructive and stifling.
I prefer the one I am in because it more like an online chat or IRC Room personal choice I have writing friend in other OOC threads too.

I can with my hand on my heart say the OOC threads did not help me to write. But there are very kind and encouraging people in them that did encourage me long before I joined one.

Sometimes an OOC thread can appear more daunting than an open thread for writing in. That's my own personal experience. Again in my own opinion OOC in SRP are no different to the Personal Threads in the Personals forum, like the Connecticut People, and New England People Threads. They are the same thing.

A Word on Writing.

Don't be put off because you think your grammar sucks or your spelling is bad. I use Word for my longer posts. Write the peice and then go and have a cup of coffee. Come back and read it through, you will spot the mistakes very quickly.

If you are starting out write from your heart, not your head. In my experience again it is easier to write something that 'feels' right than to try to contrive something that you are not certain of. Small steps.

Let your imagination be your guide, don't try to immitate, but at the same time draw on the styles and scenarios that you may have seen written before, thats not plagarism, every artist or writer draws on the ability of himself but also from the influences and works that have gone before.

A Final Word

The most important thing in anything you do, is have fun. Writing should be done for the right reason.

Some may choose to write to express an idea they have.

Some for the pleasure it brings in creating something for themselves, something they can say is theirs and be proud of.

Remember all writers start equal, it is experience that improves their art and I am sure that each of you will in no time at all realise that it becomes easier once you have taken that first step. Just like riding a bike.

Looks like I got carried away again, see what I mean about writing:eek:

Welcome once again and have FUN!

Newbie’s the only other advice I can give is this;

BE Your Self.

If shy then be shy, outgoing then be out going. Yes this is a world of fantasy. The net is by its very nature.

Yes you can create a screen name but the basic character traits should be how you feel or wish to be seen.

But in the end it sould be People + writing = fun
