I am going to my sisters' choice of hair salons tomorrow. I have an appointment with a locally, well-known stlyist who my sisters claim is just peachy. They say he charges $60.

Here are my questions: Do I tip him? How much do you pay for your hair styling/cutting, and how do you determine your tip...if you tip at all?

I'm looking for information upon which to base my decision. Thanks, in advance.

Here's some advice. Go to a barber, they cost $12.

Uhh...I pay $12 and just give 'em $15. 20-25% is about right. I figure I don't need a Master Aesthetist to cut a straight line.

Besides, I have curls which hide any fuckups.

Why the hell do you feel the need to spend $60 on a haircut?

I spend a lot of money on my hair. I think the tip depends. Are you going to use the person alot? Is it a one time thing? I see my Hair Stylist every 5 weeks and i don't tip her anymore. I refer a lot of people and i get her stuff for xmas and her birthday, as well as always bringing her hot chocolate or something when i come.

When i first started going to see her, i tipped her 15% just like i tip any other person in the service field.

i go to a barber too~same guy i've been seeing since i first moved into the city~...10 dollars and i always tip ten.

get a crewcut.

Thanks peoples for your numbers, and thanks ameliabedilia for validating expensive hair styling.;) I don't know if I'll do this more than once. We'll see. What would you say, amelia, if it was a one time deal. What would you tip then?

Good point, EE. He is not the reknowned owner of this upscale salon. My sis said that the owner's prices are well over $100...but, she added probably worth it. My hair is fine, and mistakes can be glaring.

glam! you tip 100% Shit, and you want me to get a crew cut? This salon would be right up your...errr...alley, glam. I think it'll be stretching for me:D

one time deal?

Tip like you would in a restaurant. If it's good, you tip good. If it's not, then that is up to you. I ALWAYS tip.

Thank goodness I cut my own hair, and that's very rarely, just enough to get rid of a few split ends and that's it. It's so much easier to deal with if you let it grow and grow and grow!
