Howdy people. I'm a 20 y/o guy studying political science and philosophy at the University of Minnesota. I lead a double life. I juggle a "legitimate" group of friends and activities from my political and volunteering existence with a much more nerdy group of friends from my gaming crowd. College has been good to me. It introduced the more normal group of people to my social life, and I thought I'd kicked my less-cool habits, but this summer has resulted in me falling back into the same daily grind of hanging out with gamers who only live for the next weekend of role-playing. It's an interesting dichotomy.

This post is a little different from the usual tripe in this forum. It's not a thinly-veiled attempt to get into anyone's pants. That's not my goal. I'm just looking to forge new relationships. Let the chips fall where they may. I'm not going into this with any expectations, and I encourage you to act accordingly. Lets just strike up a conversation. I don't care who you are. If you don't know me, leave a post or send me a PM. Heck, email me or look in my profile for my AIM or Yahoo.

Hhhmmm

Polictical science, well I guess my first question is what party and where the beliefs fall inside that political party.

I'm a moderate Republican. I'm pro-life, but also pro-gay marriage. My views are still solidifying. I was raised by parents who are firmly entrenched within the religious right, so my views started off pretty extreme and have been slowly changing. Those first two issues are probably the two most pertitent, but ask me about any particular thing if you want to know. PM's or something more private would probably be better for a more in-depth political discussion though.

Oh, and one final disclaimer. I'm not really looking to get into any real arguments. I'm sick of that. I find my attention span for political arguments shrinking daily. I'm up for civilized discussions, just as long as both parties understand that nobody's opinion is likely to change.

Sounds like a good start. My parents are Bi-political, my dad is Republican and my mom is Democrat. I have many beliefs that would not fall into the "typical" republican thought process but I still pretty much vote that direction. I am for abortion as a decision for the parents, but not as a birth control. I am for marriage of any two people who want to take the oath. As a friend of both straight and gay couples, I must say my gay friends have been with and more faithfull than my striaght friends, kind of makes you wonder if they know something we don't about being faithfull. If it helps, my family is mainly from East Grand Forks, and I have spent many a summer in that area growing up.

By they way, my question was not to start political arguments, just a plain question.

PoaG: I'm doing pretty well tonight actually. I was just a little bored, which is why I decided to throw this out here. How are you?

scooby: I didn't interpret what you asked as the prelude to an argument, but I wanted to make my stance clear before anything developed. Heh. No need for unnecessary tension, you know? So tell me a little more about yourself... have any hobbies?

Well I a married with two kids, love camping and fishing as a pastime, I still go up to our family cabin in Ontario Canada for the more enjoyable vacations that I get. Both myself and wife are bisexual, but we keep it discreet and only fool around with on other couple now for about 15 years. So my life basically revolves around wife, kids, fishing and golf, that an about 20 sundays a year of football. Actually a pretty dule life which I would not trade for anything.

Sounds like you've got everything going real nice for yourself. I'm in the opposite place. No meaningful relationship for too long. I figure it'll come when it comes, but the waiting sucks.

Do either of you read? I'm always reading something. Usually it's fantasy or sci-fi, but sometimes I'll find something different to read. Philosophy, sometimes. I recently read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Amazing book. Long read though.
