I read about them, the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich are hilarious and full of action.

http://www.evanovich.com/

I watch programs about them, such as Huntress, the tv show. Full of action and based on a couple of RL female bounty hunters.

I've even made a character based on them.

Last night I watched Domino with great anticipation. Has anyone else seen it or know about Domino Harvey on whom it was based?

Hey fury.. before I reply properly I just wanted to say hello :rose: long time no speak..

The stefanie plum books are rather good. My mum loves them as well as a number of other girls that I know. I read the first couple and they are very funny.. Not managed to get round to reading all 11 yet (yes, I think there are that many!)

Domino - Something that always looked like it would be interesting but I had heard keira knightley wasn't particularly good in it, which would spoil the film for me in some ways (even with her stripping in it! :p) The real story behind the film is very interesting though.

I wonder if its just me or there is a slightly domme-esque persona to women bounty hunters. Have to say we would be struggling to see who could be in charge.. lol..

Id have to agree although I havent read too many about them, Ill have to check out your link.
I was dissapointed with Domino, I was looking forward to it then actually fell asleep and never bothered to finish it the next day. I dunno what it was, maybe her acting? Or just the way the movie played out...

Hi Nax!

My husband, male and female friends all enjoy them also! That's so cool that so many can enjoy the same book!

Keira was okay IMO. The movie was too full of itself in my opinion and trying to be too cool. She didn't really strip but she did do some lap dancing in a bra and panties. You got to see about as much of it as you did the "striping" of Jessica Alba in the comic book movie (Sin City). The whole damn reason I wanted to see that movie was to see Alba strip. Fuckers!

The real story is hard to find. There are tons of inconsistencies. The special feature part that interviews her and others of the "real" people the movie was based on was the MOST interesting part IMO.

She says she was with the Ford Modeling agency but no one there can remember her. She says she went to the Strassburg acting school but no one can remember her there either.

Some say she was going to sue because the movie showed her as heterosexual when she was a proud lesbian or bi. Other say she was going to sue various reporting agencies or publications for saying she was a lesbian.

The girl was pretty heavy into drugs, her fav being heroin, reportedly. When she died she had reportedly hired from one to four minders she'd hired to keep her drug use either down or nonexistent. Whichever is the truth, she OD in the bathtub while one of her minders either talked to her or was in the other room.

At that time she was on probation for drug trafficking in a large scale operation that rumor has it, also involved her step brother. She was finally having money problems when she sold her life story to the studio. I guess her inheritance had run out and her family had cut her off due to her behavior. It is rumored she sold her story for anywhere from 50K to 150K. I gather that's chump change for a drug user and for someone of her former wealth.

I'm into kick ass female characters in general whether they are fiction or RL. Also regardless of the Domme flavor or lack thereof. I don't necessarily equate female bounty hunters with Domme figures though Domino would come the closest of the characters I cited.

Her case seems to be a very sad one overall. She seems to have been a privileged girl who had few rules set for her, too much money and not enough parenting. As with many of the idle rich, she seems to have chased any high she could get and in many forms. She was venerated and celebrated in some circles of the rebellious rich kids that knew of her despite her over the top and dangerous behavior. My guess is that many of them wished they had the guts to say fuck it all to their Daddies and Mommies.

I actually found the movie itself irritating as hell. It tried to be far too stylistic and cool rather than simply tell the story. It was a story I wanted to be told so all the fucking shadows and glitz that obfuscated the details frustrated me.

I found the acting to be fine. The girl looked hot. The story had a lot going for it. If the people making it hadn't been trying too hard it could have been good.

SPOILER ALERT:

It's interesting to me that they killed off both her bounty hunter partners in the movie but in fact in RL they are alive and she is dead. WTF?

I've read, and enjoyed, all the Plum books. Can't say it goes any farther than that.

Alba in sin city... now there is a real picture ;)

Some kick ass female characters in that movie too.. Would you go as far as saying uma thurman in kill bil would be one as well or is that a push too far?

Those are GREAT fun to read. However she is SUCH a bumbler.

This is another one of those areas that I latched onto, became obsessed about and found other ways to feed the interest. That's just the way I tend to be about things that interest me.

She is or was, before becoming blonde, so fucking HOT!!! First season of Dark Angel with the curly dark hair, OFMG!!!

There were some wonderful lines and kick ass female characters in that movie, you are so right! I didn't understand the movie. It confused me because I'm not a comic book person. Still some of the characters and lines were wonderful. I wanted more "stripping" damn it!

Uma Thurman has irritated me in countless movies. I don't like her "heroin is my fav" looks. I mean can't she use a little under eye concealer? (Though lately I've been thisclose to putting some dark grease my eyes and taking a gritty glamour shot.)

That being said, she does a good enough job and somehow gets good parts.

The part in Kill Bill was very kick ass. I had to stop thinking about her being Uma to really get into it. The movie was also very stylized but not too far over the line to enjoy the violence, lines and what story there was.

My favorite part was the anime part. That's ironic since I typically hate most anime. LOL.

I was looking forward to another of her films, My Super Ex Girl Friend but something must have gone wrong with the release or something where is it?? I wish they'd cast someone else but I want to see it anyway.

However, I think it bears mentioning with reference to the Domme, kick ass female thing that I suspect most would actually turn out to be submissive sexually. I mean how many times have we seen it said that people have to be in charge in the rest of their lives but sexually prefer to go the other way?

I know that's the case for me. (Though I don't consider myself a kick ass type. *L*)

The character that lead me into all this was a park ranger ala the Nevada Barr novel's Anna Pigeon character crossed with eons of history and a Valkyrie in training when embraced background.

Her job was to be in charge. She did it well. She was chosen ages before to be a warrior and angel of death.

There were times she hungered and needed to be submissive. It seemed intuitive to me to go that way because though I didn't consciously know it at the time, I am.

She also found sex to be enjoyable, a good way to hunt and to bring her closer to being human.

Pain was needed to deal with her extreme guilt fostered in part by a vengeful spirit that attached himself to her.

It also made her feel more alive and provided a great release. When she discovered that it was almost like salvation in a way. She was pretty warped. God I love her. But so am I and that is how she became what she was, because as always with characters, she was partly me.

Of course some people who are Dominant in the rest of their lives might also be sexually that way and vice versa. Generally I see otherwise in RL and on this board though. Still, they are great fodder for fantasies, of many types!

Funny thing is, I can't find my DVD.

:(

I did all of my packing tonight, moving from FL back to TX.

:D :D :D

Sorry, love TX.

But, when I read the topic title, I knew you had to be talking about Domino.

Knightley is hot.

Women + Guns = happy LNE.

(ooooh...just got an interesting RP idea for when I'm feeling brave enough to play as a switch. )

Fury I was talking to one of my female friends last night and she gave me an author of some books that have a female bounty hunter in them. Now I just have to find that slip of paper and I will share it with you.

I saw it on the plane when I flew to NY in november.
I cant say it was one of the best films I have seen though.. lol..

Kind of amusing though I guess.. not so much kick ass either.. just jealous and whiny.

Ok Fury you lucked out I had the slip of paper in my wallet. :D The other is Janet Evonovitch. I guess the first book title is One for Mom. My friend says that this book series is like Sue Graton's alphabet one. Each title will have a number in it. Happy reading I guess.

Opps I guess you have read those books. :catroar:

Actually the first one is titled One For The Money. The only thing I didn't like about it was her whining about playing garage with the cop when she was a kid and NOT having sex when she wanted to but wasn't a virgin. *grr*

It's a really funny and fun book full of action and laughs!
