Location: classified subterranian base in the United States, I think.

I was in the Army and one day several officers came up to me and said they wanted me to join their special project. They made it sound like it was Ranger School or Airborne School with rapid promotion and extra pay. So, I signed up and whisked away to this underground base where I...stacked boxes. Seriously, that's what I did for the better part of several months, or at least I thought it was because I haven't seen the sun in a long time.

Me and several other people would get pallets of unmarked boxes and told to take them from a loading dock and towards the storage rooms where we would stack them. That was the bulk of our days.

Then, one day, it all ended. We were loading the boxes in the room when the emergency lights flashed and the doors immediately locked. We couldn't get word out that we were in the room and we didn't know what was happening. For twenty or so minutes we sat around as the alarm ceased, but the lights continued to flash. The dual doors were six inch thick solid steel, no way to get through them and the vents were too small to get through. We just had to wait it out, but then, outside we heard what sounded like screaming then this intense scratching noise against the face of the door. Everyone stepped back, then the door burst open and a crate flew in and struck me in the face and knocked me out.

I awoke sometime later, buried under some other crates. Shoving them off and wearily looking about, the red lights were still flashing and what they revealed was that of horror. All those on my work crew were dead, not just dead but horribly mutilated. Their parts were scattered about the room like toys and blood painted the floors and wall.

The door was open, at least. Blood dripped from my forehead and around my nose as I stepped out into the tight corridor only to find the nightmare continued. There were bodies along the way. Whatever hit them showed no mercy. There was even blood on the ceiling. This was a vicious attack, and it didn't seem that whatever it was that did this was not human. It didn't seem possible. Stepping over the bodies, holding my breath, I went down the hall stopping and cautiously looking around corners. I couldn't hear anything and I didn't want to shout and betray my position. What I needed was a weapon, but the armory was on the far end of the base and none of us carried a duty weapon except the MPs. That meant I had to find one of their stations. Signs led the way.

I didn't want to go. My skin was crawling. Something evil was near, working in the darkness, and always behind me. Back pressed against the wall I moved slowly feeling my heart climb into my throat at each corner. More bodies, more horror. One had its skull crushed completely. There were a few I recognized, but I didn't have any special connections with anyone. The only hope for me was to get out of here, wherever that was.

One of the duty stations was up ahead. Its door was open, it was supposed to be closed at all times for 'security', but something pried it open and it wasn't machinery. There I found several of the MPs had died at their post. One of them had tripped the alarm, his hand was still on the button, another had fallen just inside the door with a pistol still clutched tightly in his right hand and twenty spent shell casings around him. He died defending the others as they tried to warn everyone else. Taking the keycard I managed to close and lock the door. Taking the pistol and a belt I stuffed a pouch with as many magazines as possible, then used a First Aid kit to deal with my wound.

Only half of the security cameras were working and those that were showed only more carnage. Nothing was moving, nothing appeared to be alive. There had to be someone else. That's when I found an earpiece used by the MPs. It was their wireless radio. It was giving off static, it was still active. Putting the piece into my ear I tapped it one and whispered, "All stations this net, all stations this net, does anyone read me?"

(I'm looking for a female partner. PM if interested or have questions.)

Was that a voice? It sounded like one, but there was a lot of static on link. Standing up and walking about trying to get a better reception, the voice sounded like a woman named Clayton. "Yes. Yes!" I exclaimed, then toned it down, "This is Private Weirzbowski. I'm at Security Station Two-Two. Everyone around me is dead. I don't know what happened. The alarm and security procedures have been tripped. Half of the security cameras are down. I have a sidearm with pistol. Where are you? What is happening?"

When my words left my lips I felt a cold sensation roll up my spine that I was being watched. Going over to the glowing security cameras, I touched the toggle and scanned the interior of the base, but there was nothing moving, no signs of life. If Clayton was real, then it was a person that I didn't know, then again, I didn't know most of those on my work team.

" I am in the armory stay were you are and i will come to you." When i finish with the radio i finish gathering the rifle and pistol ammo i will need. Then i screw the rifle silencer onto the barrel of my M4

and quickly but quietly make my way to security station Two-Two. I take slow deliberate steps because i don't want to be attacked by the super soldiers/zombies.

When i am halfway there i look around a corner and see some of them feasting on some dead bodies. And i know it would be insane to attack them because i would be killed, so i grab a hand grenade from my pocket pull the pin and throw it around the corner as hard as i can.

BOOM!! after throwing a second grenade i make my way through the area safely. When i reach Security station Two-Two i tap the door lightly then in loud whisper i say "its sergeant clayton open the door.

The walls were not sound proof. I could hear something dragging a piece of metal across a metal surface. There was a sssssssssssssssss that slowly faded in and out and appeared to be circling my position that my eyes were staring up at the ceiling, then at the only air duct to the room. My pistol was loaded and aiming for the duct as I waited for the sergeant to get to me.

It was a long wait, perhaps an hour, if not more. I didn't have a watch, and all I could think about was that scrapping noise, then came a faint, throat filled roar from down the hall. It was nothing I had ever heard before. Bigger than a lion, no human could make it.

"Hurry up" whispering to myself.

When there was noise on the other end of the door, I jumped and aimed the pistol until her faint words came through the steel door. Tapping on the console the doors slid open where I beckoned the sergeant to get in and closed the doors right behind. At last, someone else!

I hand you the other silenced M4 and some magazines and a pistol silencer. Here take this m4 and leave the silencer on it. Also is are some extra Rifle magazines a kevlar vest and a kevlar helmet and a pistol silencer. put that on your pistol and do not under any circumstances take it off. Unless i tell you to take it off. Now follow me. i know how of a way we can get out of here without being seen or heard."

She seemed to know what she was doing. Fixing the surpressor onto the muzzle of the weapon, and sliding my body into the kevlar, my body ached at the sudden weight being dispersed on my body. We hadn't worn this stuff since Basic, but now was not the time to be asking any more questions. With one round in the chamber and a magazine full, I was ready to for a fight as we left the security post.

The hallways were dark and narrow and that metallic noise seemed to be following us. There were sharp turns and cautious steps as we came upon one scene upon another of horrific clashes. The walls were painted red in the blood of so many people and the air was foul in rotting human flesh. It had been only a short time since their death, but they seemed to be decaying faster than usual. I couldn't say anything to the sergeant about this as we had to keep moving to get out of the danger zone.

I slowly lead you to safety making sure that our steps are as quiet as possible because around every single corner could be full of danger. When we reach the secret escape tunnel entrance i stop.

"I have to get this door unlocked Watch my back for signs of trouble." I grab the key to this door lock that i have but it does not work i curse quietly. "Damn It! this lock has been changed i am going to have to take this lock off the hard way."

So i remove my Leatherman SuperTool 300 Multi-tool from my pocket then i start to take the lock off one screw at a time. I make sure to put each screw into my pocket because i know if i drop one we are both as good as dead.

Once all the screw have been taken off I take off the lock and put it into my pocket along with the screws.

Then i open the door and say "Follow me but do it quietly."

Going up the emergency escape tunnel, we made sure to shut and lock the door that way nothing could follow us on the way up. It was just a simple ladder up a pipe wide enough for one person to climb at a time to a sealed hatch to the outside world, but we were a long ways underground, so our ascent wasn't fast, that is until the metallic scrapping noise returned that made us pause. It sounded like it was right outside the tunnel.

My eyes followed the sound, it echoed through the tunnel all the way to the base, only to pause at the entrance way we had gone through. There it went silent for just a moment. It was over, so we continued our climb, only for a terrific bang that rattled the tunnel and nearly knocked us off the ladder. Looking up, the Sergeant struggled to grasp the cold steel rungs of the ladder. My eyes looked down to the base of the tunnel and the steel doors that were six inches thick of solid steel were suddenly punctured and pulled apart as if it were tissue paper.

What came through the tunnel was something that I couldn't describe. It wasn't a zombie, it was something...unworldly. "GO!" I exclaimed to the sergeant while grasping the pistol grip of my suppressed rifle, I squeezed off several shots, but it didn't appear to be doing anything.

"He watch were you shooting that thing i'm going as fast as i can."

i pull my self up the ladder as fast as i can when i reach the hatch that was at the other end of the tunnel i open it and climb through it then i pull you through it.

then i silently indicate where i need you to stand and keep watch for me. Why your keeping watch i star pulling safety pins and dropping hand grenades, straight down the tunnel we had used to escape.

After dropping my last grenade i close the latch then i use broken tree branch to hold the door. closed so no one can follow us. "Follow me i know a safe place we can go." Then i slowly lead you out of the area and out to an old abandoned hotel.

I kick in a door and we go inside then i barricade the door behind us "We should be safe here. Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dana clayton i am a scientist that works for a special branch of the u.s. Army, and my scientific team and i are responsible for this mess."

"we were working with the U.S. Army to create a Super Soldier use an injectable serum but unfortunately it backfired and caused everyone that it was tested on to turn into something evil very evil."

"I am the only survivor of my scientific team so i am going to develop an antidote to undo this whole mess do you have any questions for me?"

It all was happening incredibly fast. From escaping the base and making it to the hotel, my mind was in haze as she explained it all to me. "Yeah. Is there anyway to kill them?"

The rifle she gave me lay at my side as we buttoned up inside the abandoned hotel room. The place was deserted, I think it was a tourist spot before the government bought up all the land around the base to maintain secrecy, and since then it just been the animals grazing in the overgrown grass outside.

Running my hands through my hair and looking at the dingy looking hotel room, there was no running water, or electricity. We wouldn't be able to stay here, but the nearest town was over thirty miles away. We would have to leg it.

"Just the rifle's and pistols we have just aim for the chest or the head or if you prefer two rounds to the chest and one to the head. and leave the silencers in place loud noise's attract them."

"Alright. I can do that," taking a deep breath, "Now, how do you plan on making an antidote? You'll need a team and a lab full of equipment in order to do that. There's no place anywhere near here for that. Unless you want to go back inside the base," though I knew that she would never go for that. Our only hope lay in getting out of here and calling for reinforcements. It was a nightmare in that base. The only way to purge the base would be to set napalm upon it and burning it all to ash.

I was just a soldier, and she was a scientist. I stacked boxes and she worked with viruses. I didn't know how I could help her except for summoning up my training and being the soldier I wanted to be. This was it. "I can do this. What's our next move then?"

I have all the equipment we need to make the antidote in my backpack and their is no way in Hell i am returning to that base. Well i need you to watch my back while i work then i open my backpack and lay out my science gear once piece at a time.

After laying out my gear i put on my apron and safety googles then i begin to work one step at a time. Making sure to follow each and every step slowly and with precision, because if i make a mistake we are All Screwed!!!

"Okay" going over to the door and ensuring that it was locked. We didn't have power, but that was alright because she didn't appear to need it. The curtains were down, blocking out the window. I took a peek outside, there was nothing except some birds off in the trees nesting. It was rather peaceful looking with the rich greens all around, a stark contrast to the the Hell we just left. Yeah. I wouldn't go back in there even if I had a whole army of competent men to work with. Let it burn.

When she said she could make an antidote, I didn't know how long it would take. Such a complex formula could take hours, even days to make, but that also meant they had to test it and I was the only person left to be a guinea pig. No thanks. I already had enough injected into me when I joined that Army.

"Don't worry to much i will get the antidote together fairly quickly but i refuse to rush any more than necessary." If i can get our hands on a portable generator and some fuel for it i know that i can jerry rig some sort of system so we can have power and running water here."

"We are also going to need some extra clothes, food, and some other necessities if we are going to hold up here for awhile which we will have to."

"I doubt there's anything like that in this town," I said, "This place has been abandoned for over twenty years. Anything that wold be left would now be rotten." Even if there were some stores left, I wouldn't want to look for anything by myself because I wondered how many of those demons had escaped from the base. "The nearest town is 30 miles down the road. Even then it's little more than a gas station and a few buildings. That would be our best chance than holding up here in this hotel." But a march like that could take a whole day of going through the wilderness. "We can try looking through the hotel, but I doubt we're going to find anything."

Hated to sound bitter, but that's how I felt. The room we were in looked like it would fall apart at any moment.

In truth I was still rattled by what happened down there. My friends were gone and there didn't seem any chance of surviving that. Perhaps she saw that I was shivering and it wasn't because it was cold, it was because I was scared. Nothing like this was ever taught to us, about zombies, a viral outbreak. We were trained to survive, but nothing like this. The only thing keeping me going right now was her and her plan. She would have to guide me through this.

"I remove a camoflage flannel shirt from my pack and put it on your body "Here this should help keep you a few degree's warmer. Hey don't you remember that old Army rule no one gets left behind !"

"If you make this journey then i am going with you. now let me get this antidote finished then we can look around and see what resources we have around here."

"Thanks" it did help keep me warm and calm. That's what I needed to do, keep calm. While she tinkered with her portable set, I was fascinated as she went to work pulling out her notes, jotting down formulas and then testing samples. Science was never my thing and I was filled with questions, but I couldn't force myself to ask her and ruin her concentration. My job was to keep watch over her, keep still and stay alert. That was my job.

Dana slowly worked one step at a time testing various formula variations when something got messed up she took note of it. if something went right she took note of it. Then finally after several hours of testing and retesting she hit upon the right formula

When its done she pours it into two large empty coffee thermoses seal the lids tights then i put them in a safe place. "The antidote formula is done and i put it in a safe place." you mentioned that their is a gas station nearby lots of portable generators run on gasoline with we can find some gas cans around here. We will be able to fill them with gasoline and if we come across a generator we can use to gasoline to run it. so will be able to to have electricity and running water."

"Lets search for some gas cans". Then i grab my M4 and we begin the search."

The search was on. Thank God for plastics as most of the wood and metal had rusted away. Humpf. Don't know how good the fuel would be, probably all spoiled after sitting still for a long period of time, but she was convinced that there was fuel in this long abandoned site and I didn't want her going alone, and I didn't want to be alone. All the while I'm keeping one eye on her and one eye on our surroundings, praying to every God I can think off that none of those demons figured out how to scale a ladder and open up a hatch way.

"How much fuel do you think we'll need?" whispering to her as we went about our searching.

"I am not 100% sure how much we will exactly need but if our supply runs out. We can always go back and get more. After searching 3 rooms and finding nothing we search a 4th room. Bingo!!! i found some gas cans! i quickly counted them we have 12 gas can's i repeat 12 cans. give me a hand getting them back to our room." I sling my M4 over my shoulder and then with your help i began carrying the gas can's to our room.

The weight of the cans was heavy that we could only carry two at a time for each of us. Good thing all of that stacking heavy boxes paid off because I carried them out with no problem, but it took us maybe twenty or so minutes to bus them from their hiding place and over to the generator. Opening up the cans and looking inside, the gas appeared to be untarnished, rather surprising, guess some farmer wanted to store up when the gas prices shot up. His idea of conservation were now our gain as he carefully opened up the generator and poured the gas inside.

Glug glug glug

Once the last can of gas was in the generator i turned it on and it roared to life. "Yes it looks like we will have some heat and some running water. Tonight."

"YAY!" I shouted in joy, but knew that I had to be quiet. We went back to the old hotel room and tried out the plumbing. A flick of the light switch revealed that we had power as the lightbulbs flashed then glowed bright. Surprisingly there was no explosion. Going to the sink I turned the knobs and the plumbing rattled and then spat out dark, sick looking, water. Ick, but after a few seconds the water began to come out quite clear. Touching it with the back of the hand, ahhh it was warm and getting hot. We have something to work with now!
