This is it, pornsters. The moment I've been postponing since the arrival of my Airport Extreme wireless thingie. I'm sure it's just a matter of unplugging the mac from the DSL modem and plugging the Airport thingie into the DSL modem, and then installing some software, and then the mac will automatically transfer my network settings to the Airport thingie, right? Just like they say in the instructions.

Things don't always work out the way they do in the instructions. So if I disappear into the world of Airport, remember:

"I picked the wrong day to give up sniffing glue."

"Surely you aren't serious."

"I'm dead serious. And don't call me Shirley."

"What do you make out of this Johnny?"

"I could make a brooch, or a butterfly...."

~~~
"The Tower? the tower! Rapunzel!"
Well that sucked.
I'm wired again. The #@!^%# base station claims it can't locate the network. Here's the network, stupid base station. I've got your network right here.
"Sets up automatically." Of course it does, Mr. Chalabi. You seem trustworthy.
Tomorrow, when I have the strength to be on hold with a service rep, I'll find out why Airport Extreme and Bellsouth DSL aren't speaking to each other. In the meantime...
"The White Zone is for loading and unloading only."
"No, the Red Zone is for loading and unloading."
"The White Zone, you idiot."
Set one up last month. Had the same kind of problem, the instructions are not helpful.
Try switching off the DSL power supply, wait a minute, connected to the airport base station then turn the power back on, will take 20 secs or so to configure itself.
On the ADS you have three little lights, centre - power should be lit, you should see one of the other two flicker to show it is receiving a signal.
Check the Airport fan logo on the menu bar, make sure AirPort is turned on.
Open System Preferences, click on Network, click Show, Airport should be listed, select Airport.
Click TCP/IP tab, select configure and select using DHCP
Click Airport tab, click button join network with best signal (this will enable you to 'steal' other peoples networks when your shopping and need a sudden reality check) it should then find ABS - if it's receiving a signal.
Check boxes allow this computer to make networks and show AirPort status in menu bar.
Finally, click Apply Now at foot of page.
If that fails - ask Mr Chalabi if he makes house calls.
Best of luck.
Thanks sweetheart :kiss: , except shereads has not been back. Do ya think it was something I said?
Hope to God she copied down her original setting, else she'll have my arse if it hasn't worked.
Then again...
Wow.
I wish they had asked you to write the instructions. "Plug-and-go" is deceptively simple. Like the Bush budget.
Don't attempt this without making a copy of your current settings, I don't want to be held to account.
(I thought it had worked and you'd gone back to bed with your laptop. ;))
