Stay tuned for your regularly-scheduled programming.

I won't mince words here - I find it absolutely disgusting that a) in this day and age of supposed equality and in a kink scene where we should be free from discrimination because of who we are, there are a LOT of fetish clubs who happily charge men more for entry than women and that b) precious few people are actually bothered about that.

I'm discussing the point on another board right now, where there are two clubs in question: both charge men £10 more than women, with one of those charging women nothing at all to get in. Among the comments from people who aren't directly opposing it have made was one person suggesting that single men simply find a single woman to go with them (which is the equivalent of papering over a crack in a wall and pretending it doesn't exist).

The whole thing is just reprehensible. Sexual discrimination, yet again, gets ignored because the only people suffering happen to have penises and thus nobody gives a shit. Imagine the fucking uproar if the reverse were true.

And I'm done. Discuss.

I personally hate that. It IS sexual discrimination and a lot of people say things like "Well, men have it so easy in this and this and this, so GET OVER IT!"

I'm sorry, but Feminism was about sexual equality in all things, not special treatment because we have vaginae. If a girl gets charged 20 bucks, then a guy should get charged 20 bucks, it's not hard to figure out.

If they're worried about "creepy single guys" getting in, they need to screen the people they let in more carefully and be willing to boot folks out on their asses in a hurry if they make a nuisance of themselves. I'd guess it'd be the creepers who were more likely to pay the extra money to get in because it's the only way they'll get close to females. Normal dudes wouldn't necessarily feel that way.

So I think they're keeping out the people they want and not affecting the ones they don't want in the long run.

When the world realizes that men and women are different, and that it is ok, there will be less struggle.

It should be a one price fits all.

Yeah, that pisses me off, too. A couple of clubs and parties around here do that, and it's total bullshit. It's not a "women are better" policy, but a "we want a lot of hot women in order to attract guys who are willing to pay more for the pleasure of ogling hot women" policy. It might be good business sense, in a twisted sort of way, but it's horrible as far as customer relations goes.

What Syd said... I am sure it's about wanting to have tons of hot women running around. But really, I think it sucks.

well, the lighting and all LOL I *was* going to make a silly comment about how they try for the hot women and end up getting people like me but knew that would bring a bunch of people telling me to STFU and quit asking for compliments!

It is unfair of them to charge men and not women. Unless they're doing a ladies' night and a gentleman's night, I suppose. But that'd have to do both at one point or another, otherwise that wouldn't be fair either.

A club is successful if its filled with women

they try to get women in any way they can

and keep too many men out

If they didn't it would be like 20 men for 1 woman

To get in, often for free, get a lady on each arm and walk in.

Works for drinks too, to get free drinks have a girl get them.

First of all, this is not feminism. Nope it is not. The clubs want lots of women because they know that men will pay to be in their company. So its using women as commodities. Ladies, you are providing entertainment value for the price of your free entrance.

Mutual entertainment, of course, is what all clubs are for!

This is also NOT "sexual discrimination." Going to a club is a choice and a luxury, not a necessity. Genuine discrimination impacts things like; your limited job choices and inability to rise in your career, whether or not your father feels he can beat you to death for dating against his wishes, stuff like that-- and those things are slowly diminishing because women have been fighting all this time.

But contrary to Bibunny's thought, the people the clubs want in them? Are exactly the guys who will shell out the extra dosh. Although they might pay attention when the women complain about a real creep, the owners have bills to pay, cops to bribe, Ferraris to keep in tune-- and a nice guy who can't pay just isn't going to satisfy those needs, when an almost-nice guy who can pay will fill the bill.

Technically, this is price discrimination first and foremost, but I'm being discriminated against because I have a penis. In what way is that not sexual discrimination? It doesn't matter that this club is a luxury item, unless you'd make the same argument in support of a car dealership that charges one sex a different price to the other.

Club A charges men and women equally to get in. Club B charges women less and gives them free drinks for the first hour, too. If you were a woman, what club would you rather go to? Unless there is something else that draws the women to club A, it stands to reason that they would go to club B, which lets them in cheaper, and gives them free drinks.

Some clubs don't even charge women, but let them in for FREE! Some clubs let only the women in for the first hour and give them free drinks for that hour. The idea behind that is to get the women all "liquored up" so when the men are let in, the women are more...um...accessible. Some women like that, and some don't. Is it right? Some women think it's OK and some don't. The ones that don't like it, don't go to that club. The ones that think it's OK go in, get free drinks and wait for when the men are allowed in. They know the reason for the procedure. If they don't, oh well.

The thing is, these clubs aren't discriminating against men, they are actually being sexist against women. They are using the women to draw the men in to the club. And because a lot of clubs do this, many also allow the women to drink for free, too. It's just another way to get women into the club. Club owners assume that the more women in the club, the more men will want in. The men will then buy drinks for the women to continue the inebriation process, hoping to eventually get into her pants. The club wins, even if the men don't.

It's discrimination -- it just doesn't rise to the level of life-impacting importance as, say, hiring practices. I think I would liken it to women getting charged more for haircuts or at the dry cleaners. The difference in price is based on factors that are basically beyond an individual person's control.

Running one of those clubs is expensive as hell, even without the Ferrari motive.

It's called economics.

Here's a idea. For the sake of argument, leave bdsm out of the equation. Open a nightclub and let all the men in free while charging single women a ten dollar cover charge. You might find a few swinging dicks at the bar but no women within a block or two other than the ones waiting on tables.

Yeah, hi. Degree in Economics. I know potential profit when I see it and, even though these clubs would likely make MORE profit by charging equal amounts - I cannot believe the amount of women interested in going on because their tickets are slightly cheaper is substantial enough - that's not the point here. It's discriminatory, you can't argue against that. And yes, a club that charged women more than men would fail spectacularly; that club would be as bad as the ones I'm talking about, but that's not the case because it wouldn't get off the ground.

Um, I never said that clubs charging more for men was feminism, I said feminism was about sexual equality in ALL THINGS.

a private club I've been to in LHR charges single guys a huge amount to go in and as it doesn't have a bar but is BYO, it isn't about raising profit margins, but about getting a better male to female balance. single men are only allowed in on one or two nights of the week and when I went there there were far far more single guys than women. And paying more didn't keep the creepy ones out, in fact it possibly meant you just got much older (sometimes creepy) guys.

Given this place has limits on the numbers of single men who can attend anyway, I don't see why they shouldn't reduce the entrance so it's at least on a par with the couples' entry fee, or if it's an MMF threesome coming in, there should be a reduction.

I said feminism was about sexual equality in ALL THINGS.

No, it's about equality in some areas where women want it. I have yet to see a woman fight for equality in an area where it would mean a disadvantage.

I think you might have a slightly biased idea about what mainstream feminism is about.

Technically speaking, ordering lunch at the Woolworth's counter is also "a choice and a luxury." And Woolworth's (like Freaky Fetish Club), as a private establishment, should be able to serve whomever it does or does not want to serve, and charge whatever the fuck it wants. The free market will take care of any discrimination, because decent people everywhere will boycott private establishments that discriminate unjustly.

[/Rand Paul]

Not a Paul fan in the slightest; just making a point about your "choice and luxury" reference.

Not sure exactly why the CRA of '64 doesn't apply to gender-based entrance fees to clubs. However, I do know the economic term commonly used to defend the type of price differential MS describes. It is "demand-based price discrimination." See Freakonomics for a non-kinky example.

There is one reason and one alone this is done.

If you want the party to be even more of a sausage fest than it already tends to be, that's why.

I'm only in favor of it to the extent that it actually brings other women into clubs and out. But it's kind of stupid, and not egalitarian, true.

However, try gettting one of MY shirts dry cleaned and get back to me. Better yet, let's buy cars.

When women are willing to pay a thirty dollar cover charge to get into a club full of men, then the day of equality will be here.

As long as testosterone exists and befuddles men's minds, that day will be postponed.
