I'm getting desperate

I've been going to a transgendered clinic for four months now, and the doctor refuses to prescribe hormones. She claims that she, I, and the therapist need to "work as a team" before they decide I'm ready, but that is nowhere in sight.

The therapy is completely useless to me. I mentioned my likeliness of obtaining my own hormones online, and she still refused a prescription, in spite of the standards of care.

I no longer know what to do. I've been ready for hormones before even starting therapy, and I can't keep waiting. I just might order them online, but I know it's dangerous. A new clinic might be the answer, but I have no idea how to find one.

Any ideas?

Can you get a second opinion? Talk to another doctor at the same clinic? Why isn't the therapy working?

There's only one MD at the clinic, and it seems like they have fairly rigid treatment guidelines, of which they wont tell me anything.

The therapy is useless because I don't need it. I know exactly what my problems are and how to fix them. They are only inhibiting me by withholding hormones.

Are there other doctors in your area that you can go too . This one sounds like they're not taking your needs into account . So I say its time to find a new doctor . This also comes into play when you are not part of the treatment loop . Any time this happens find a new doctor . Good luck !!!!

A new doctor would probably be the answer, but I have no idea how to find a qualified one. An endocrinologist willing to prescribe and monitor hormone levels would be ideal, but very few have experience with transgendered patients. I don't know where to start.

Maybe another transgendered person could help you find one in your area . I'm not sure were you are from , so I can't be much help . There are a few here that are on hormones that maybe able to help .

I'm in southern Minnesota. Unfortunately, I have no friends to help me, neither trans nor cis.

Thats to bad sounds like you could really use a close friend to help .

A doctor's job is not only to carry out the wishes of the patient, but to do what is in the best interests of the patient as well, and sometimes those interests conflict.

you got to choices and being impatient doesn't help the situation. one is to play the game play along with your therapist so they will perscribe the hormones or you can contact my therapist and see if she knows of someone near you that can help you. if you would like that i can send you her email address.

Hormone treatment

A big thank you to Tymeless for trying to help out. I wonder temp256 did a google with key words to the nearest largest city if something would come up.

As far as mail order stuff goes, the postal service is starting to get stricter about screening drug inports, one of my friends just had her hormones seized by the postal service (because they were shipped from England) so I don't recommend the mail order business.

I've played games with doctors far too long. I've already decided to start hormones, but the question remains where to get them and find a doctor to monitor me.

Tymeless, I would like the email, thanks.

Sound like your starting to go in the right direction . I don't think I would want to work with a doctor that wasn't behind me 100% of the time . After all who whould know what you want more than you ?

Can you come up to the Twin Cities? There are many clinics up here, the Univ of Minnesota is supposed to have a good one.

That's the clinic I was going to. Oh, and they already closed my file for some reason. I found them very unprofessional.
