I'm confused a bit.

I've got something like 4000 views on one story of mine, and 900 on another, but only three comments/feedbacks.

What did I do incorrectly, and how can I encourage more feedback?

When you find out let me know! I have a pic thread that has tons of views but the only feedback I get is from myself....and a few other kind folks.

I've read stories on this site that were okay, yet they receive 30-40 feedbacks. Then, I read a great story and it doesn't even get 10 feedbacks. Unfortunately, I think the majority of readers on Literotica prefer a quick grope and screw story over a well written story with an actual plot. They get bored when there isn't a sex scene within the first few paragraphs, so they stop reading and go elsewhere.

I applaud the readers who take the time to read a well written story and stick it out to the end. Almost always, the wait and effort is well worth it.

Enter contests.

I've only done it twice. First time was a short piece of smut for the 2004 Halloween Contest. The second was a much more involved story for the 2005 Halloween Contest.

Both received many more votes and comments than I usually get for such works.

yes that it definitely the way to get larger numbers of reads and comments.

The other way is to write a particularly contentious story in LW category. The critics there are amongst the most vocal on this site and are more likely to leave public comments.

You could try putting an Authors note at the beginning/end inviting feedback or votes. That sometimes works. :)

There you go trying to throw the newbie to the wolves..... :D

I wouldn't wish LW on my worse enemy.....

Comments come with time and building a following... keep writing, it only gets better.....

You're probably on the right track right now. There are just so many stories posted that it's impossible for anyone to keep up with them all. Posting new story announcements here and asking for feedback makes your story stand out a bit. It also makes it clear that you want feedback--there are more than a few people who think it's pushy or presumptive to offer their opinions until they're certain that the writer wants to hear them.

I guess it all counts on what you're hungry for... a well-written story with a plot that doesn't appeal to you, or a plot that you've been dying to see, but it's just ok. A great story could be a piece of trash to another eye. But...it's what you're hungry for. Mmmmmm, trash. :D

That may be the best advice i've gotten so far.

Story announcements go in this forum, yes?

What has apparently worked well in my case is starting a thread advertising my stories. I keep it updated constantly so that it is often on the main page. Most of my stories have numerous comments on them, partly as a result of this advertising.

And, Like Graham, said, entering contests helps. I've got 43 PCs on 'I Believe,' a Winter Holiday contest entry.
