That's what I thought at first. But there is no way his handlers would have gotten him to Walter Reed if he weren't really very sick. I think it's probably WORSE than they're letting on, based on the treatments they're using. As for his trip out in public, that's just Trump being Trump. It has always got to be all about him, even at the risk of other people's lives (the secret service agents in his SUV were subject to the worst exposure possible outside of a medical ward).

So, he contracts COVID and gets extraordinary special treatment. If he is able to dodge further relapses due to the level of care few in this nation can afford, he will return to the White House reinforced in his self absorption, more convinced than ever of his divine wisdom and purpose.
