"The middle of fucking nowhere. I'm going to die in the middle of nowhere. I'll be known as the woman who died in the middle of nowhere because I couldn't afford to fill the tank with gas!"
The evening was humid, the sun was beginning to set, and the woman in question sunk down beside her car and drew her knees to her nicely-shaped chest. She leaned her chin on the tops of her knees and cussed her bad luck. First she'd been evicted from her apartment for unpaid rent, then her credit card had been chewed by an ATM because the bank had cut her credit, and after being fired from her low paid job, she was now stuck on a deserted highway in the loneliest part of the State.
She was young, slim, long-legged, and her eyes were the lightest shade of green. Her bleached blonde hair was scrubbed back and tied tightly in a bun because of the heat, and her light blue summer dress was starting to cling to her lightly tanned skin. She pulled her sandals from her feet after a while because even they felt like they were merging and melting into her.
"This trip was a joke," she muttered to herself, wondering what the hell she'd been thinking. There were no funds to pay for any of this, but she had just wanted to run. Now, she was looking at a long wait as she hoped somebody would come along and save her stupid ass from dying of thirst. "I even forgot to pack water. Who forgets to pack water on the hottest day of the year?" She looked around, shaking her head. "Stop talking to yourself, you're mad already, but you don't want to be crazy, too."
