I'm About to Install my First Hard Drive

it's not hard at all...try hot swapping secondary internal hardrives while the computer is on...

I can do it. So you can too!
Hell, you must be at least one generation behind me.
Of course you can.

:nana: :D :nana:

You can do it!!!!

Sending fairy dust your way just for luck :)

It was nice knowing you all. :(

This has taken you over a week to do. The longer you procrastinate, the harder it gets. I know.

First, get the floppies out of the way. They are nice to warm up on and useful later but when you are ready to go for the real deal it is best to neglect them for a bit.

Before beginning the install, get yourself grounded. Grab something solid. There is often a static discharge at first and you need to be prepared to deal with it.

Now the data cable should only go in one way and if you try to force it the wrong way it can ruin everything. Talk about your buzzkill.

Once the data is hooked up to where it will flow in and out properly, plug in the power connector and get ready for the bytes to start flowing. You may hear all sorts of noises, buzzes, clicks, hummms and purrs.

If you have done everything right, your first install should be a very satisfying experience, particularly if you have plenty of RAM. You will probably be coming back to try it again soon.

You may even want to write about it in "First Time."

Let us know how it went.

Wait... have you been posting from a puter with out a hard drive all this time? Well, what can I say? Welcome to the 90's, baby.

What the f***s a hard drive??? :D
Stavanger, Norway to Gothenburg, Sweden a February night 2002. It was like driving on a polished bobsleigh track. Pitch black, and only one, semi working headlight. That really sucked.

Welp, I had finally gathered my courage, screwdriver firmly in hand, and was about to start disconnecting wires-- and then I read the above. Thanks a lot, Teach. You're a real peach.

Good Luck!

(It sounds like you'll need it. :D )

BTW, do you have a thing for ducks? ;)

Collect them, actually-- but only the yellow ones, I promise!

...Why do I suddenly feel like the local whore being told to work another corner by the competition?

UPDATE: As it turns out, my hard drive thingie only has 4 pin-like thingies, and my computer hookie thingie has 6 holes. I think they sent me the wrong thingie, but I did manage to reconnect the other thingies to make my computer run off the old drive for now. Cheers! :nana:

See? I told ya.
Since you're back, it means you were able to connect the old one.
Therefore you can hook up the new one too.
If the connections fit. LOL

<cackles> Used to love descriptions like that when I fixed computers.
