I had to have some blood tests today. My tonsillitis is still classed as "acute" and not getting any better. Yesterday I had a new development when the lymph nodes under my arms started swelling up. I noticed in the shower, and freaked out to the point where I cried. I might be 27 but I still had to take my mum with me to the doctor's surgery.

And lo and behold, what should happen but my first ever breast examination - carried out twice in one day by two very different but equally attractive women. I didn't enjoy it. For one thing I was feeling like utter shit, and secondly I got embarrassed. Saying that, it has to be a personal record - I'd never had my tits felt up by two women in one day, until yesterday.

Anyway, to get to the long and short of it, the both the doctor and the nurse practitioner seem convinced that it's Glandular Fever. I definitely have all the symptoms.

I'm still waiting on the blood tests, but if it is Glandular Fever (and I can't think what the hell else it can be), it means a LONG stretch away from a job that was making me depressed. It also means I'll get way more time to write. And it also means that with the post-viral fatigue I have a damn good reason to take time off from the world of work and have a shot at setting up my own website or finishing a novel.

Sometimes things definitely work out for the better. ;)

damn, honey. thats one shite way of getting time off. i see what you mean but i wish it were another way.
when i was younger, i would ponder about ...if i had to lose a limb, which one could i do without? well, i still think about things like that every now and then. how would something like that affect my life, how would i learn to live my life ect.
get betterer soon. if its a grope you want, come here and we'll grope you all you want and we'll do it even when you're feeling well.

Holy fuck. Exactly how long will you be away from work if this is the case? And I agree with Vella; it IS a shitty way to get out of working.

Much as I hate to say this... go ahead and have them taken out. (the tonsils, not the breasts ) I had to have mine taken out ten years ago for pretty much the same damn thing... only stupid, stubborn me waited until they abcessed and started poisoning my body to have it done. (Not one of the smartest things to do, but I was 16 and had a car that helped me disappear. A lot.)

Just go ahead and get rid of them. Apparently, tonsils are there for the purpose of acting like sponges to suck up and concentrate nasty things in a relatively harmless place. Once they take them out, when they're that badly infected, you tend to heal amazingly fast. The doctors will ship them to the Far East to sell as something exotic like dried tiger's balls, and you'll be back on your feet in about two days, although you'll still have about a month to recuperate fully.:D Just my opinion.

You know me, I'm always up for a grope, Vella

Hard to say. At least a month. I've had tonsillitis for the past week and a half and it's not showing any signs of shifting, despite penicillin. It's one of the symptoms of the virus. At the moment my energy levels are very much boom and bust. The exhaustion hits me in seconds flat, and the only solution is to sleep it off for a few hours.

Worst case scenario is if I get post viral fatigue. It could be a year before I feel 100% again.

I don't know... My tonsils are mine. They might be a pain in the arse at the moment, but they've behaved themselves for years and years. It would seem cruel to rip them out... even to be sold as tiger balls ;)

Ok - I'll admit it: I'm too much of a wuss.

Tonsilitis is very common among adults, especially recurring tonsilitis, because its a very risky procedure to remove tonsils in adults. I'm not scaremongering, its true. I've heard way too many 'nightmare' stories from adults that had to have their tonsils removed. That's why most tonsils are removed from toddlers. I had mine out when I was 3.

My eldest gets bouts of tonsilitis every year, but the doctor just goes on prescribing anti-biotics, and won't put him forward for surgery. Short of paying for private surgery, he just has to put up with it.

The glandular fever is much more serious, that's a sure sign of a stressed out, worn out body and system. You make the most of the time off, make sure you rest (you'll have no option, your body will be very tired), and get really well and fit before returning to work.

 :rose:

As it happens I'm feeling ok today, but I had a pretty bad weekend of it. I drove to my sister's house Friday afternoon, then almost passed out from exhaustion. I've also been having the chills and night sweats so bad that sometimes it feels like the River Nile is running down my cleavage

I get to go and see my stern, yet incredibly attractive nurse practioner tomorrow morning to confirm the blood test results. I've done some online research and I'm anticipating a long list of "Do nots". If it is confirmed as glandular fever, for the next couple of months I won't be allowed to lift anything, take part in any strenuous exercise, be involved in any rough physical contact (bang goes my Friday night orgy), drink alcohol, nor consume an excess of unhealthy foods.

I have visions of myself turning around to the poor woman and saying, "That's ok, nurse - I'll just stay in bed, smoke pot and write porn stories." ;)

I wonder if I will?

Don't worry, Mat - I'm milking this one for all it's worth. I've already bought a big LCD tv so that I can watch dvds in bed and play my video games on. My meals are being brought to my bedside on trays, and for the first time ever my mum has started cooking all my favourites, one after another :) Life really isn't all that bad. When the weather was nicer last week, I drove to a secret forest, which no one else seems to know about, and sat in the sun, having a smoke and not stressing about what I had to get done by the next day. Like I said, illness definitely has its advantages ;) :rose:  :rose:

Better glandular fever at your age than anything cancerous. As for being felt up? I go for my 2-year boob squish in June, so get used to SM ... its all nice and cosy at the first couple of feels, but then they bring in the medical machines! :p

Do. Please do. (It'd probably make her year!)

More seriously, all my sympathy. Just say the word and I'll bring grapes.
