The embodiment of the unapologetic artist. A legend in his own lifetime. That he looked askance at Hemingway was always a little funny to me. He lost a little ground toward the end, but I loved much of what he wrote.

I think Dalva was probably my favorite from his oeuvre. Though the treatment of Brown Dog was one of his finest contributions.
 
Had to Google the name (Bing actually). But will stick him on my future read list. Loved the vintage fly-fishing in Legends of the Fall.

I think that's a nice comparison, ROM. Particularly of the UP, but he traveled all over.

Later in his life he and his wife moved out west, I believe. But he's as much a part of Michigan as the Mackinac Bridge.
