Why do today what I can easily put off till tomorrow?

What percentage of the population do you think would call themselves procrastinators? I'm sure everybody puts off unpleasant tasks once in awhile, but how many would call it a major problem?

I've always thought I could be a serious contender for the throne - Queen Procrastinatious! (Well, everyone has to be good at something.)

And for the bonus question: is procrastination a manifestation of laziness? I, of course, would say absolutely not, but I've argued with some who insist it is. What do you think?

Oh, and post your replies now, not later!

Later in the day....

...the first of many procratinators reply:D

I think most of the population are on certain things. I bet I can give you a run for that title "Queen Procrastinatious"
LOL!

Hey...you should save that name for your title when you hit you hit your 1000th post? It has a neat ring to it!

No I don't think it has to do with laziness...I think it stems from life is so busy and hectic that when something can be put off we do to get some relief. Priorities..***** is always pulling for us to give immediate attention to something.

Well...that's my .02 cents worth! :p

Can I get back to ya? I don't really have time for this now...

Damn, I was going to say that, but Lasher beat me to it!
So much for that sense of urgency (now where did I put that?).

Well,,, maybe,,,

Maybe laziness,,, maybe wanting to dodge reality, and wishing that the task will go away,,,

Maybe just ( as forgetunome said ) the ordering of priorities,,,

Maybe passing the buck, hoping that someone else will do it instead,,,

Maybe just an attitude, as in I really don't give a rats ass,,,

Maybe wanting to dodge a confrontation,,,

Then again, maybe it's laziness after all,,,

I think that the answer might well be as varied as each individual and circumstance,,,

Want a more definate answer,,, maybe I'll do that later

Top 10 reasons to stop procrastinating;
1.

Seriously, though, I'm a huge procrastinator. I alsmost didn't graduate from high school because of it. I'm always doing papers the night before and letting everything build up. I hate that I do it, but it's really hard to keep a handle on sometimes. Of course, if something's important enuogh to me, I'll get it done.

Is it a manifestation of laziness? Not in all cases.

I was going to join Procrastinators Anonymous, but I never got around to it.

For me, Procrastination is as much a sign of apathy or depression as it is laziness. Most often though, it's just procrastination.

Virtual "fireball" that fizzles

Behind my desk, I'm ready to go. As soon as a problem arises, I'm ready to solve it, can not rest until it's been resolved.
But as soon as I leave work, I'm totally laid back, always seem to need a kick in the the butt to do the mundane chores of every day life.

Got time?

I think there are many reasons to procrastinate. First of all most things are more challenging with a time limit. You don't have to get something done yet so you put it off till It's more important then a nything else you have to do. Probably has to do with not planning ahead heh. I am the anti-procrastinator because if I don't force myself to do things right away I always leave them to the very very last minute. I enjoy the thrill I think of rushing to get something done. I don't think procrastinating is really linked to lazyness as you usually have to expend tons more energy to do something last minute then if you had done it right off. Might have something to do with our belief that tommorow may never happen and if it dosn't then why do something we don't like unless we have to? Sure we pay for it when tommorow gets here but try and tell our subconcious minds that:)

Got to to with Vlad on this one! At work, I get it all done, but my private time is time to relax, so I am following in the procrastinatos' camp. My opinion, is that we all just work to damn hard during the week, therefore should take our down time to do things we enjoy. So the dusting doesn't get done, oh well. I'll do it when it starts to annoy me. At least I feed the mutt! :)

But as I said, that is just my opinion, I could be wrong. It could be laziness too!!

Okay, I guess it's finally time to answer this thread. hehe
I don't have an opinion about whether it's laziness or just plain old procrastination. Let me think about it some more.

Hey, I get a lot done when I procrastinate!! Really, since I'll sit here and try to write a paper, and I'll get my dishes done, my laundry done, my apartment cleaned, etc etc and so on! I think it's some kind of negative reinforcement or something, I get all my house work done, and I get an A on my paper. So I always put them off until the night before they're due! :D

Hey, lookie what popped up! LOL @ April :)
Goddess, that's exactly what I'm like. Good to hear I'm not the only one. I don't know anyone as bad for that as I am. Sometimes I feel like I could live without all that extra stress, but in the end, it's the pressure that inspires me and I always do well. I guess we all work in different ways. Whatever works for you, eh?
