So mom and I are looking for a house.
Dad won't be coming with *cough*
So we're trying to hide everything we do from him.
Long story INSANELY shortened, for the past 22 years, our life history has invovled dad bilking out of rent and other necessary things money would go to in favor of buying cigarettes, pepsi, pills, and pot. (now me winding up with a drug addict makes sense huh?) It's a lovely family secret that's been greiving mom for years. He will forgo buying food if it means he'll miss out on his 4 pack a day, 3 2-liters, a wad of pain killers, and as much pot as he can get his supplier to sell him.
We have moved every six months from the time I was 8 to the time I was 15, and the last 3 houses we/they have lived in for 3 year max. By time they move out of anywhere, we have been severly behind on rent.
My dad owns a carpet cleaning business, and my mom has been doing the work since he started the damned business nearly 17 years ago. Dad claims she's never worked a day. My brother is currently doing the work for $10 an hour, but dad has yet to pay him the $160 he currently owes my brother, claiming we don't have it even though we've done over $1000 in jobs in the past week.
The house we're currently living in is owned by one of our first customers. She's litterlly like the 2nd or 3rd customer we ever had 17 years ago. She's been a regular customer and she owns and rents out no less than 15 different homes and I don't think that included the two she has for herself. We figured that dad wouldn't miss rent because #1 he loves saving face (even at the cost of mom, more long story) and #2 she's a total bitch about having her rent on time.
Every month, she calls, dad gets her the money, or even does work for her to get our rent cheapened. For the past month or so, our AC has been going out and we've been trying to get something done about it. Finally they sent someone out to look at it, who told her the whole damned thing needed replaced and the cost will be somewhere in the area of $2000 for all the work needed done. They then called us back shortly after and said they couldn't fix it until she OK'd. Last week, maybe week before, she calls us up and says "you owe $7000 in back rent. Pay up or get out." (which she actually did to my sister once, long explination *sigh*)
This would mean we've missed 10 months in rent. We asked dad, who replied "yeah, that's about accurate". Uhhhh EXCUSE ME???? So anyway, if she is lying (possibly) there's not much we can do about it because she has way more money than us and can afford any lawyer she wants, and if HE is telling the truth, then he's pulled his same shit over again.
So mom's had enough. Well, I've found someone willing to help us move. Help mom and I get a house as long as dad doesn't go with. So that's what we've been doing.
Last thursday, we had a woman show us a house, it's an... odd house, very confusingly laid out. Well, I'm babbling to her, telling her about my ex, about my boss, and about our situation with dad. Suddenly, she refers to my ex boss by his first name. I froze. I finally noticed her name tag. Wellllllll turns out, I've worked on her case. She's known my boss for god knows how long, and he's handled her legal disputes. For the rest of the day I was going "oh shit oh shit oh shit" She practically ran off. left us there even though we had more houses we wanted to see.
Today, she calls us up, she wants to help us out. She said she will show us any house and try to help us get it. Mom said she talked forever trying to figure out what she could do to help us out quicker.
I... I have no idea what to think. I'll be damned. Seriously o.0;
