Ilkley Moor (You have got to listen to this!)

I'm doing this on Mat's behalf, btw.

I could've posted this in the Yorkshire gathering thread, but it's so good, I wanted to get the widest audience possible. :D

This audio file is a recording Mat made of all the blokes who went to Yorkshire to meet Perdita, and everyone else, singing "Ilkley Moor". It really is not to be missed.

Some blokes from the AH sing Ilkley Moor

These are the words, btw:

ILKLEY MOOR
Note: ba tat’, means, ‘without a hat’

1. Where hast tha been since I saw thee, I saw thee,
On Ilkley Moor ba tat.
Where hast tha been since I saw thee, I saw thee,
Where hast tha been since I saw thee, I saw thee (without tha’ trousers on)

Chorus: On Ilkley Moor ba tat.
On Ilkley Moor ba tat.
On Ilkley Moor ba tat. (Where the ducks play football)

2. I've been a-courtin’ Mary Jane

3. Then thou shall catch thy death of cold

4. Then we shall have to bury thee

5. The worms will come and eat thee up

6. Then ducks will come and eat up worms

7. Then we will come and eat up ducks

8. Then we shall have eaten thee.

Errr... Lou, I can't get it to work. It keeps coming up with a broken QuickTime link.

Dunno about that. It does download directly from my site. You trying to play it in your browser?

Okay, now it's working. Lesson for others - don't try and play things through your browser.

Bump.
Thanks for posting it Lou, got to keep it up there, for when Perdita returns home so she doesn't have to search.

I apologise for the quality of the recording, I was holding a memo-recorder, and trying not to shake too much with laughter. The actual visual of the guys' faces while singing was hilarious.

Brilliant performance lads, I think it should go on the Audio Thread.

Probably of collected apologies, for disservices to music. I would dispute Gauche's being the 'most out of tune' voice - it was probably mine.

Now there's a vision!

Exit Kylie, pursued by the male members of the Ilkley Moor Chorale. To one side, Perdita, Mat and J-L, laughing helplessly and propping each other up . . .

Alex

Ahh yes the Ilkley moor chorale members tongues all hanging out, thier eyes wide and cheeks flushed... *L*

This last verse should read:

Then we shall 'ave etten thee.

This gives the right 'flavour' to the local accent.

I wonder what miracles Saturday evening will bring?

The most out of tune voice you CAN'T hear is mine. I was some distance from Matriarch's recorder.
